Ace has been working away from his family for 3.5 years, & on a visit home to the Philippines was seriously injured in an accident.
International
Ace has been working in Christchurch for the last 3.5 years, working to supply materials for the EQ rebuild. Over Christmas, on only his second visit home to his family in Sorsogon, Bicol and Tanay, Rizal in the Philippines, he was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident. A truck crossed the center line of the road, veering into the path of the motorcycle that Ace was a passenger on and causing a head-on collision.
Ace was very lucky to survive the accident, but has very serious injuries to his jaw and lower skull. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on the 29th January, which is expected to take nine hours and will require 10 steel plates to piece together his shattered face. Following the operation, he will require a recovery period of at least 3 months before he will be fit enough to travel back to Christchurch, or to resume work.
Unfortunately, the Philippines does not have the health system that we enjoy here in New Zealand, and Ace must pay all medical expenses directly to the hospital before he will be released.
Ace is a valued member of staff at Euro Corporation, and an active member of the Filipino Community in Christchurch.
All funds raised will go towards covering Ace's extensive medical costs, and to support his family while Ace is recovering.
Ace to be discharged from Hospital 20 February 2018
Ace is scheduled to be discharged from Hospital today (20th February) to his family's home, where he will require 1 full month of bed rest. His doctor has advised that he will need a further 2-3 months of rest to make a full recovery.
