History lesson brings family ancestry, current affairs and ANZAC together. help Aidan to find a grave of Samuel Williams in France.
Taranaki
History is an exciting subject. Someone might argue that it is not a practical discipline, but rather a narrative of long forgotten past.
Considering of what is going on in the world, history is important to know, so we can avoid the mistakes of previous generations and, subsequently, the goal will be to stop wars globally.
Aidan is a Y12 student from New Plymouth Boys High. He is interested in history, in particular war history. Next year he is going to a school trip to Europe, and he would like to visit some cemeteries to find a grave of Samuel Williams.
What is special about Samuel Williams?
Aidan came across Samuel Williams' record on the Auckland Cenotaph website when he was preparing for a history lesson. There is only one line saying that Samuel was a private and his grave is located at Crossroads cemetery, Fontaine-au-Bois, France. His whole life fitted into one line! Aidan would like to tell the story of Samuel. How Samuel got to the army? What were his aspirations in life? What his next of kin from Taranaki knows about Samuel? The one thing we know for sure is that Samuel travelled at least once in his life.
Help Aidan to learn about Samuel and tell the world a story of private Williams's life.
