Puberty did me oh so dirty. At 14, I already had doube D’s which have since grown to H’s - weighing approx 2.5kgs - EACH. This has brought me chronic pain and muscular problems, postural issues and regular headaches and migraines, all of which have cost me hundreds in massage, physio and chiropractic treatments, (not to mention the bras @ $80-100 each!). But wait, there’s more! These tig ol’ biddies have massively impeded my ability to be active and healthy (I can’t run for more than two minutes without asthma symptoms) and given me low self-esteem and intense body dysmorphia.
I have wanted this surgery for over 10 years, since I was 16. Since 18, I have tried numerous times to be seen publicly but was always denied, or not taken seriously. When I finally resorted to private, the consulting surgeon took one look at me and agreed I was the perfect candidate. The goal is to remove 75% of my breast tissue, which would take my cup size down to about a C.
There are so many ways this surgery will be truly freeing, not only physically but mentally. After recovery, I’ll enlist a PT & physio to strengthen my muscles, and correct the damage of the last decade. I am so excited to be active and healthy (I often dream of jogging along Oriental Parade in summer in only a sports bra & shorts, the sun on my skin!) and to wear clothes that fit and flatter my body and make me feel confident and comfortable and YOUNG (not modest and matronly).
I met Anastasia at uni, and we have been friends and collaborators on theatre projects for over 7 years. She is incredibly kind and delightful and creates community wherever she goes. I am so excited about how this surgery will change her life.
Anastasia and her partner, Eddie, are taking out a loan of $18,000 to cover the costs of surgery alone. The surgery is booked for September 6th. The money raised will be used to pay off this loan with some remaining to fund her recovery.
