Help Andrew Fight Brain Cancer

Andrew, beloved by family & friends, has been fighting GBM (glioblastoma), the most aggressive and common type of brain cancer, since June 2024.

GBM is notoriously difficult to treat-Andrew has endured 9 gruelling months of care including 2 craniotomies, 6 wks of daily chemoradiation and 5 mths of chemotherapy. The family have left no stone unturned, also pursuing private and alternative treatments which has come at a huge financial cost.

He is now at a crossroads in his treatment. His oncologists have recommended bevacizumab and another chemo to try to reduce the size of the tumours and improve his quality of life. Currently not funded by the govt, the projected cost of this is approx $90,000.

Andrew has been unable to work since June last year, and the family doesn't have health insurance to cover this cost. Anna (a teacher) and the boys will need to spend more time at home in the coming months to support him - one has withdrawn from university to do so.

We know many people have been asking how they can help, and now the Swains are seeking further support from their community, in which Andrew has been so active. He has contributed endless hours to support children and teen sports teams, school trips, work with Watercare etc. He has been generous with his time and belongings, and many of us and our children have benefited from his generosity.
