Support Anna-Kristy to access unfunded cancer treatment. Support our girl to feel well and enjoy the time she has with her family.
Dunedin, Otago
Anna-Kristy. Sass pot. 40 years young, married to our favourite Brit, Paul. Social worker. Mother to Elle Grace. Stepmother to the girls. Cherished aunty. Mother to three outrageous dogs.
In 2017 AK was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer. After chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, the cancer spread to her liver. This meant a second surgery in 2018 with more chemotherapy. In 2019 it then spread to her lung. Stage four. More surgery. This time a wedge removed from her lung. More treatment. At this point AK's story takes another cruel twist. She had three scans to check her lung for cancer. THREE SCANS. The tumour was missed by medical professionals THREE times. This meant it had progressed significantly before it was caught. Despite these medical errors, ACC declined her treatment claim, leaving her unable to receive any chemotherapy that is not funded by the government. In 2021 AK had a lobe of her lung removed.
2022. The cancer is back. Surgery was attempted in February to remove her entire lung. She went into surgery thinking they would remove her lung; she would wake up and start to feel well again. But she woke up to be told that the surgery was unsuccessful. They found the cancer had spread to areas in her chest that are not able to be treated with radiation or surgery.
AK's oncologist has recommended the treatment of Cetuximab. This is not government funded, and has a huge cost. AK deserves to feel well. She deserves health and happiness. Let's make our girl smile.
Anna-Kristy is one of my oldest and dearest friends. She is like a sister to me. A sassy older sister who might tell me off. So I am creating this page with her oversight.
Any donations will be used towards Cetuximab treatment to support Anna-Kristy towards feeling well again.
