Ashley has been invited to join the New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company at the Globe Theatre in London, July 2021.
Wellington
After a stellar performance in the 2020 National Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand workshops in Dunedin, Ashley has been selected to go to London in July 2021.
Only 48 students from around New Zealand were chosen for the Dunedin workshops after a rigorous serious of Shakespeare performances for the National Shakespeare Globe New Zealand . Just 24 of these students were then chosen to perform at the Globe in London.
It’s an extraordinary privilege and great honour to be selected. It's also been a life changing and transformational journey for Ashley after a pretty bumpy few years.
Struggling with undiagnosed ADD and depression in college in 2018, Ashley signed up for a Theatre option when her class choices were limited.
She was such a reserved and reticent girl, her drama teacher asked if she was in the right class on that first day.
It was like a light being turned on.
Her future selection to the Globe crew started that day – it revealed an exceptional natural talent and created a deep love of theatre and all it involved. From then on, Ashley breathed and slept theatre. She radiated joy.
After struggling at school for 18 months, theatre gave her a place to stand tall and succeed.
Ashley now writes plays when she can't sleep.
Ashley needs to get to the Globe, and her family needs a little help getting her there.
Six years ago, when Ashley was in primary school, her Mum diagnosed with breast cancer and started treatment. This was a massive upheaval for the whole family. The sight of their active and busy mum reduced to a very ill woman who spent a lot of time sleeping was very hard on Ashley and her younger sister. After years of uncertainty, mum is recovering. They all made it through this roller coaster intact and their family bond is stronger because of it.
Unfortunately this has left the family with no cash reserves for any extra expenses as important as the Globe selection.
Ashley needs a little bit of help to help her use those wings she has found.
This is a once in a lifetime experience for Ashley.
She’s made it through depression and family upheavals and found some big, beautiful theatre wings.
The Globe has decided that she’s got the talent and skills to perform Shakespeare in London with the New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company!
We would be so grateful for any donation she would receive.
Every cent is a feather for her wings to help her fly.
She needs to raise $9500 NZD for the trip .
The trip fees are paid in installments.
We have paid the first installment of $1000 and are working towards the next installment due in February of $2000.
There is $2000 due in April.
The final account of $4000 to be paid in May 2021.
We have just realised that on top of all that will be the $3000 for quarantine when they return from the trip.
Any donation, no matter how small will help get Ashley on this incredible journey.
We are so grateful for any help you can give us to get her to the Globe.
Thank you so much
I am raising funds for my daughter Ashley
