Raising money for Baby Robin to fight cancer
International
Robin is a beautiful 21-month-old baby boy and back in January this year, just after his 1st birthday, his mum, Rachel got the devastating news that he had high-risk MYCN-amplified Neuroblastoma - an extremely rare and aggressive childhood cancer. The cancer, which began in his right adrenal gland had also spread to his abdomen, pelvis, spine and bone marrow.
I know Rachel from when we worked at the Northern Advocate newspaper in Whangarei which is why I have started this page for her.
Since January, Robin has been on a rollercoaster of weekly hospital admissions for eight cycles of high-intensity chemotherapy, a stem cell harvest and two major surgeries and miraculously, after all his little body has been through.
In September, Rachel, and her husband Nick, took Robin to a specialist hospital in Barcelona, Spain, for treatment that isn’t offered to children like Robin in the UK. The treatment will give Robin the best possible chance at a long, healthy and hospital-free life but it comes at a massive cost – over $NZ 1 million! The family has already raised almost half but they still have $550,000 to raise for the 7-month course of immunotherapy.
Rachel said it is her dream to bring Robin and Nick to NZ once this is all over and spend some time with her friends and whanau, who she misses.
Please give what you can and share Robin’s story with everyone you know. If you can spare a few dollars and your friends can and their friends can, we might just do this!
Thank you – Lucy xxx
I am friends with Rachel and have offered to help her fundraise from New Zealand, where she used to live.
