This page has been created to raise funds for Baljeet Singh’s urgent cancer treatment and recovery.
Invercargill, Southland
Indian Community Southland is reaching out to support Baljeet Singh, a 32-year-old permanent resident of New Zealand, has spent the last 7 years working hard to build a better future. Last year, he was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent 6 months of intensive chemotherapy. He faced this entire journey alone, without his family by his side, which made it physically and emotionally very challenging. This experience has also impacted his mental health, causing stress and anxiety.
Despite initial treatment, Baljeet’s cancer has unfortunately returned and progressed to Stage 3. This relapse means he now requires urgent and more aggressive treatment, including high-dose chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant (BMT), and maintenance therapy to reduce the risk of relapse and improve his chances of recovery.
🔹Immediate Treatment Plan
Baljeet will be traveling to India on Monday to begin the next phase of his treatment. After arrival, he will undergo detailed medical tests, including biopsy and other diagnostic scans, to assess the current condition of his disease.
Based on these results, doctors will carefully review his case and finalize a personalized treatment plan. This is expected to include advanced maintenance therapies such as Nivolumab and Brentuximab vedotin, which are important in reducing the chances of relapse and improving long-term recovery.
The exact course of treatment will depend on the test results and the medical team’s evaluation after a complete case study.
🔹Why Support is Needed
While some cancer treatments are funded in New Zealand, there is a very low chance that the full course of Baljeet’s treatment, especially maintenance therapy, will be fully covered. In addition, long waiting times for critical procedures can delay urgently needed care.
Without close family support in New Zealand, Baljeet has made the difficult decision to travel to India, where he can receive timely treatment while being surrounded by his loved ones during this critical time.
🔹Financial Need
The total estimated cost of treatment in India is approximately NZD 70,000, which includes:
High-dose chemotherapy
Bone marrow transplant (BMT)
Maintenance therapy (Nivolumab and Brentuximab vedotin)
Hospital stays and medical procedures
Medications and supportive care
Diagnostic tests (biopsy, scans, etc.)
This cost is beyond Baljeet’s financial capacity, which is why support from the community is essential.
🔹How You Can Help
Indian Community Southland (ICS) is humbly appealing to the community for support. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in helping Baljeet access life-saving treatment and focus on his recovery.
All funds raised will be directly deposited into Baljeet’s New Zealand bank account and will be used strictly for his treatment and related expenses.
