Help us fund the emergency spinal surgery needed to relieve 90% spinal compression and get Bambi back on her feet.
Auckland
Hi everyone,
Two years ago, this amazing community stepped up and saved our Corgi, Bambi, when she beat a severe case of gastroenteritis. Because of your generosity, she enjoyed two wonderful, healthy years of running and playing.
Now, Bambi is facing a completely new, unrelated crisis. She has suddenly lost the ability to walk and is currently paralysed. We initially tried to manage this through strict, conservative treatment, keeping her on 8 weeks of intensive crate rest, but she did not improve. That’s when we moved to an urgent MRI.
The diagnosis was severe: an intervertebral disc extrusion (L3-4) causing a devastating 90%+ compression of her spinal cord. Emergency surgery is her only chance to walk again.
As responsible pet parents, we have insurance, but we were devastated to learn her policy completely excludes spinal disorders. We cannot use a single cent of insurance for this.
The financial toll is immense: $7,000 for the MRI and $10,339.68 for the scheduled surgery, totaling over $17,000 out-of-pocket. We are covering the vast majority ourselves but are asking for partial help to raise $5,000 to get her through this.
Bambi is a fighter. She proved that two years ago, and she has so much life left to live. Every dollar goes directly to her surgical care. If you cannot donate, sharing this link means the world to us.
Thank you for helping us bring the bounce back to Bambi’s step once again.
Every dollar will go toward the spinal surgery cost to give her the chance to walk again. If we fall short of the goal, 100% of the gathered donations will still be applied directly to the surgical bill. Bambi will receive her treatment no matter what.
Update Regarding Bambi's Surgery 3 June 2026
Just a quick update regarding Bambi's Surgery. It was overall a success, and she's recovering well! It was a bit complicated due to her size and the amount of disc extrusion, but the talented specialist at VSA Henderson did an amazing job for her.
So far, we've paid the initial deposit for the surgery, which was $3,100. The remaining will be paid when she checks out, though we suspect it may be a bit more than the initial quote, since she will remain hospitalised for at least 2 nights first. So, any amount still helps!
