In Memory of Ben Hutton

  • Honouring Ben

      15 February 2026

After a long, brave and incredibly tenacious 6 year battle with cancer, our beautiful Ben has been called home to be with the Lord.

Ben showed a lifetime of strength in just 21 years. He achieved more in his short life than many ever will. An incredible footballer, intelligent beyond measure, and one of the kindest, most easy-going souls you could ever meet. Cancer never defined him. If you didn’t know he was sick, you would have never known. He never complained, never made a fuss, and carried his pain with quiet strength, fighting humbly and gracefully until the very end.

The past six years, especially these recent months, tested him in ways we will never fully understand. Yet Ben never lost his faith, his smile, or his love for others. He was the most thoughtful brother, protective and selfless, loving our family so deeply.

I am so grateful I grew up by your side, Ben. You taught me kindness and how to be good in this world. You were the very best uncle, brother, son and friend. To know you was to love you.

We are so sorry you had to fight so hard, but we find peace knowing you are safe in God’s arms.

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8

Ben’s funeral will be Friday 20 February 2026 at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Cambridge, at 11am. Please let our family know if you will be attending.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ben’s Givealittle page. 🤍

  • Update on Ben’s Health

      3 January 2026

    Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for the ongoing love, messages, and support for Ben and our family.

Recent scans have shown that Ben’s Ewing sarcoma has spread to his pancreas. The tumour is large (12.6 cm x 7.3 cm x 8 cm) and appears to have grown significantly within just over a month, making this a complex and serious situation.

Ben’s CT scan has also shown suspicious fluid in his abdomen (ascites). Ascites is a build-up of fluid that has been causing Ben pain, bloating, and discomfort, making it harder for him to eat and maintain his strength. The scan has also identified small nodes near the bowel, which are still being investigated.

Ben is currently in hospital receiving specialist care focused on managing pain and symptoms while further investigations are underway. He is waiting for an endoscopic biopsy to confirm the nature of the pancreatic tumour. In New Zealand, only a small number of specialised surgeons can perform this procedure, resulting in an anxious wait.

The funds raised will help us explore specialist care options overseas and support Ben’s quality of life and comfort during this incredibly challenging time.

Ben continues to show incredible strength, and we are deeply grateful for every message, share, and donation.

    With love and gratitude,

    The Hutton family.
