Help me achieve my goal to win a medal at the World Master IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship in August this year!
Auckland
My name is Clinton Davies.
I am a 35 year old athlete and I compete in Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I am also 95% blind.
When I was two years old, I was treated for chicken pox with penicillin. Although it was a life-saving treatment, it caused a severe allergic reaction that led to me developing Stevens Johnson Syndrome. The reaction caused permanent damage to my lung tissue, blistered my body and diminished my sight to 1-metre visibility, although I can only perceive shapes and changes in light.
I have always believed there's nothing I can't do that other sighted athletes can.
Although I am eligible to compete in the Paralympics, I choose to test myself against sighted athletes. Why wouldn't I?
My recent achievements include:
- Top 16 at World Master IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2017
- Silver at Pan Pacific Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship 2017
- New Zealand lightweight gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion
- Former ten-time New Zealand Wresting champion
My goal is to win a medal at the World Master IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship in August this year, so I am raising funds to help cover travel, accommodation, training and competition costs.
