Help bring our dad home after a major stroke overseas
Auckland
Hi everyone,
We are reaching out with the heaviest of hearts. On the 17th of October 2025 our dad, Malik Zafar, suffered a major cryptogenic stroke while overseas. We’re doing everything we can, but we simply can't bring him back home to NZ without help.
Our dad is the strongest, kindest person we know. Someone who has always put others before himself. He’s the one who shows up without being asked, who fixes problems quietly, who gives without expecting anything in return. Seeing him lying in a hospital bed in a foreign country, unable to speak and barely able to move, is something we never imagined our family would face.
We need help with the ongoing medical expenses, essential recovery costs, the special travel arrangements and temporary accomodation. He is not stable enough to fly on a regular commercial flight, he is unable to sit, stand or walk on his own. The stroke has majorly affected the left side of his body.
He is receiving physiotherapy treatments everyday but every day that passes is critical. The faster we can bring him home, the better his chances are for recovery. Being surrounded by family, receiving care in his own country, and having access to proper rehabilitation could make all the difference in whether he regains his independence.
We are asking from the bottom of our hearts for your help. Whether it’s through donating, sharing this page, or keeping our dad in your prayers. Any amount truly makes a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Update 24 December 2025
Dad has started physiotherapy, which gives us hope as he continues his recovery. Progress is slow, but we are staying positive and grateful for each small step forward. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for all the love and support 🤍
