NRG North Shore want to install a Seabin in Milford Marina to help clean up the Milford Estuary & improve the water quality of our beaches.

Auckland

Next Rotary Generation (NRG) North Shore have started this campaign because we want to help kick start the clean-up of the Wairau Estuary, Milford Marina and Milford Beach area, improve the water quality and take a stand against ocean plastics!

Our goal is to raise enough money to install a Seabin in the Milford Marina, where the Wairau Estuary flows into and the rubbish and debris collects. We want to catch the plastics, rubbish and pollutants here and stop them from being swept through the Marina and into our swimming beaches and the wider ocean.

We need your help to raise money to buy a Seabin, a revolutionary ocean cleaning technology which is essentially a floating rubbish bin that operates 24/7 catching all floating debris in the water - from plastics to organic debris, to oils and petrol floating on top of the surface of the water!

There are over 800 Seabins worldwide, and only 5 currently in NZ - we want to help clean the ocean of floating debris which in turn creates cleaner oceans and we all benefit from this in one way or another.

Did you know that 300 million tonnes of plastic are produced in the world every year, half of which is for single use products, from this more than 8 million tonnes of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year. We need to do something about it and now with the purchase of a Seabin we can all participate and make a difference.

Join us and our campaign to help clean up our local beaches and ensure cleaner oceans!

This fundraising project is managed by NRG North Shore in partnership with Milford Rotary, Milford WEEPS, Milford Mariners and Milford Residents Association.

This fundraising project has the support of Auckland Council departments: Healthy Waters, Community Facilities, and the Regulatory and Compliance Team, and is currently seeking official support from Devonport-Takapuna Local Board.

About us

NRG North Shore is a fresh approach to Rotary for those wanting friendship, networking and a chance to contribute to the local and wider community.

A subsidary of Milford Rotary, NRG aim to gather like-minded 20+ year olds who would like to give back to their community through fund-raising, running projects that will benefit community groups young and old, networking and most of all having fun while doing so!

As a satellite group NRG North Shore does not follow the usual Rotary formalities or meeting structures and requirements and is designed to work around your family and business commitments with one meeting a month in the morning (7am at Columbus Coffee, Smales Farm) and one meeting a month in the evening (6:30pm at a local bar).

Its only link to Rotary is the requirement to pay an annual membership fee and remain ethical.

The credibility of the group is based on following the high standard of ethics that Rotarians have become respected for, worldwide. These are the following:

Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The group also embark on occasional social events to add that bit of fun.

Use of funds

All money raised will go towards purchasing and installing the Seabin units into the Milford Marina. If we raise more than we need for one unit, the rest will go towards another Seabin!

NRG Fundraising Quiz Night  17 May 2021

On Tuesday, 16th March, NRG North Shore held a fundraising Quiz Night to help raise funds towards our Seabin project.

It was a fantastic night, with great company, some great quizzing as well as a raffle, silent auction and a Live Auction run by the wonderful Shane Cortese.

We are extremely proud to report that from that night, we gathered $4,000 towards our SeaBin!

We still have a little way to go, but hopefully we can update you again soon, as there are a couple of things in the mix.

Thank you to all that have donated so far - to those that came to the Quiz Night, and to those still considering a donation! Your help and support is greatly appreciated - we WILL see a SeaBin in the Milford Marina!
