Help Brook and Abby enjoy their last moments together.
Waikato
Brook has battled a battle no one ever wants to battle. Brook was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer in 2018. Brook was given less than 12 months to live, but his determination and positivity saw him defy the odds, traveling the world, and marrying the love of his life, Abby.
Despite Brook’s incredible journey over the past few years, we have finally had the news no one wanted to hear. In July 2022 Brook and his wife Abby received the news that treatment for his stage 4 brain cancer was no longer working. His care team have advised that he now only has mere months left.
The next little while will be a roller coaster and, as you can imagine when being told your life is about to be taken away, there are things they wish to do together to make the final moments special.
We want Brook to be able to tick off as much as he can on that bucket list and we want Abby to be able to spend as much precious time with him as possible. Whether that is small trips here and there, going to watch sports or simply being able to be together each day and walk their dogs.
Brook will no longer be able to work as much as he would like and Abby is the main income earner for the pair. Medical and living costs don’t stop, even in such times of hardship. We want to take the financial pressure off Abby in order for her to be able to take some time off work to be with her husband till the end.
If you’d like to see a little more about the kind of person Brook is, please watch the video on this page.
This page has been set up by the families of Brook and Abby to ask our community of family, friends and well-wishers to contribute as much or little as they can to help.
Money raised here will go towards bills, living costs so that Abby can take time off work to spend with Brook and to help them make lasting final memories.
A battle lost peacefully, surrounded by love. 21 October 2022
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this update to inform you that Brook lost his courageous battle and passed away last night.
He passed peacefully and surrounded by those that love him deeply.
Unfortunately the final trip to Oz wasn't able to happen due to his swift decline. However, Brook and Abby lived up those final moments in all their glory from an incredible trip to QT, to spending time together locally with friends and family, and with their corgis.
The end came far too soon for Brook, but he is in peace now with no more pain. Unused funds that were raised for adventures will be redirected to help with funeral costs.
We can't thank you all enough for your kind words, support and generous donations. Funeral plans are in prep and details will be posted online and in local papers once finalised.
For those that may wish to send flowers or condolences, we ask that instead of flowers you make a donation to Waikato Hospice in memory of Brook. They have been extraordinary in their help and support during this time.
This fundraiser is due to close in a few days, so this will be the final update. Once again, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
Anna - on behalf of Abby, Brook and their families.
