St John are rebuilding the Ngaruawahia ambulance station and we need your help to continue saving lives.
Waikato
Ngaruawahia St John is in urgent need of a new facility to base our ambulance and some of our community programmes.
Our current building is not up to standard and had to be closed due to leaky building issues. The Ambulance is currently operating from a rented house but this not able to continue long term.
We need to rebuild our station to provide for ongoing and effective services to the greater Ngaruawahia Community. To do this we need a helping hand to raise the funds needed.
Although St John actively fund raises year round and we have an annual appeal, the national focus is rightly targeted at keeping the services running, but not for building infrastructure like Ambulance stations. To build the homes for the ambulances and our other services we need to raise funds separately as projects like this.
The Ngaruawahia community is a small community with a big heart, and it is important to keep essential services close to the need so we can respond appropriately to help.
Please help us to help you, your loved ones, your friends and your neighbours. The Ngaruawahia Ambulance serves the wider community including rural and north Hamilton. The chances are that you will know someone that could need this service. Even if you are travelling from Auckland through our patch, we'll be there for you.
Our givealittle fundraising target is $450,000 of the $530,000 total project cost, and we need it as fast as possible to provide the community with what it needs. So if you can lend a hand and donate to our project we will greatly appreciate your generosity, be it a few dollars that you may have spare, or lending a hand with a grand, we need you all.
We also encourage you to share your good news stories about how St John has been there for you when you needed us.
If you, your business, or community group want to help us as a project of your own, please contact Cecilia Abbott from our project committee via email cecilia.abbott@stjohn.org.nz
St John’s mission is to prevent and relieve sickness and injury, and act to enhance the health and well-being of all New Zealanders.
Our ambulance services treated and transported over 469,000 people last year and responded to more than 500,000 111 calls for an ambulance. St John ensures patients get the right care, at the right time, from the right person, by taking care to patients rather than just taking patients to care.
We also offer proactive community programmes that aim to build resilient communities and support New Zealanders to keep living independently for longer. We have over 900 dedicated "Friends of the Emergency Department" volunteers who provide comfort and support to patients and families in 23 hospitals nationwide. Our Caring Callers provide reassurance and offer friendship to over 1000 lonely or isolated people every day.
Our Health Shuttle service transports people to essential medical and health-related appointments, and then brings them home again. It is often used by people who have poor mobility or are unable to travel the distances to health appointments in the area. For these people, using either private or public transport can be difficult or in some instances, impossible. (St John Health Shuttles are not available in all areas across New Zealand.)
