We appreciate you support in helping Carol find her way back to feeling safe and empowered by rebuilding her confidence and independence.
Wairoa, Hawke's Bay
We are reaching out as close friends and family to support our wonderful friend/mum/grandmother/great-grandmother Carol. While out on her mobility scooter, which she relied on daily, she was violently attacked by a dog in an unprovoked incident. She has had two surgeries so far - with hopefully no more to go, however there is a long recovery ahead. Including multiple check ups, rehabilitation and counselling. As Carol lives in a small town in the Hawkes Bay, this means travel to Napier. Carol is also raising her almost 6 year old Great-grandson, who thankfully was not with her at the time.
Due to her degenerative eye condition -retinitis pigmentosa- she is no longer allowed to drive. Her scooter was her lifeline — her way of staying independent, visiting friends and family - including her elderly mother, and getting around safely. However, she is now too frightened to use it again.
Carol has always been a strong, loving, and generous person — someone who is resilient and has been through a lot in the last 5 years, including the passing of her eldest son in 2020 and her husband in 2023. This attack has shaken her deeply, but with your help, we know she can find her way back to feeling safe and empowered. Every donation, every share, every kind word means the world to us. Thank you for standing with her — and with us.
