Please help get Caroline and Steve home, to be closer to the larger part of their family and get more rehabilitation help for Steve

Nationwide

In March 2019 my parents Caroline and Steve, after much debate and prayer, sold 99% of their belongs and moved from NZ to Ireland where my brother (1 of their 6 children lives) to start a new adventure. However, in May of 2019, just 2 months after their move, my dad suffered a severe stroke which left him fully paralysed with locked in syndrome (unable to communicate or move except for moving and blinking his eyes) for 3 months, in August 2019 he was able to breathe again unassisted. He was hospitalised for a total of 9 and a half months. In February 2020 after extensive treatments, he left the hospital. Still wheelchair bound and with limited movement in his right arm and both legs, and no movement of his left arm.

Today he is making progress, but slowly with limited rehabilitation help he is offered from home.

The difficulty of separation from the children and grandchildren, and the the opportunity to receive more extensive care and work towards a fuller recovery in New Zealand, they feel the best thing is to move home.

When Dad was in hospital Mum travelled 3 hours 6 to 7 days a week for 9 and a half months, and as you can imagine the fuel costs very quickly added up on top of all the other expenses of day to day life. I cannot go without saying the generosity of so many during this time will never be forgotten, my family and I will be forever grateful.

Unfortunately due to Dad being the sole income earner and Mum not being able to get a job AND support Dad in his recovery at the same time, money has been an issue. Unable to work, the savings they had from selling everything dwindled. What they have left would cover the costs of moving home but leave little if anything for them to start again once they arrived.

Now myself on behalf on my parents and siblings are asking this last favour, to help bring them home. All funds raised will go towards their relocation costs, this include flights, a small amount of essential items to be shipped back to NZ, and help in funding towards rehabilitation costs once back in NZ.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
