Charlie's Fight for Life: A Brave Cat's Journey
In late November 2024, our beloved 1.5-year-old cat Charlie was tragically hit by a car. Against all odds, he survived the initial accident, but his injuries were severe. Charlie required immediate surgery to amputate his leg.
Just as we thought Charlie was on the road to recovery, further complications arose. Our vet discovered that Charlie had developed a diaphragmatic hernia, a condition where his organs had pushed through a tear in his diaphragm. This required two additional surgeries to repair the hernia and reposition his organs.
Just when we thought he was out of the woods, our vet delivered more devastating news… Charlie had a hole in his pericardial sac, near his heart. This condition requires specialist surgery to repair. Without it, Charlie's chances of survival are slim.
We've already spent thousands of dollars on Charlie's care. And his final surgery to repair the hole in his pericardial sac is estimated to cost around $8,000.
As a responsible pet owner, we've always considered Charlie's care our responsibility. However, we're now faced with an impossible decision: either find a way to cover the cost of Charlie's last surgery or say goodbye to our boy which we just don’t have the heart to do.
We understand that not everyone may be in a position to donate, and we respect that. However, if you're able to support Charlie's surgery, we'd be forever grateful.
The funds will be used to cover the costs of:
Vet: ARC Vets
- Specialist surgery at ARC Vets to repair the hole in Charlies Pericardial sac ($6,500 - $7,500)
- Specialist consultation and further diagnostic scans pre surgery ($1,200)
Goal updated 22 January 2025
I have thankfully had so much support from so many wonderful people on our community pages who have ordered or have paid deposits for up coming pet portraits. This along with my pay, and my other little side hustle (Pawshake) will allow me to make up the difference by March if we manage to raise the rest.
Every little donation counts. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. I will be updating the community pages when Charlie is booked in as I know some people have asked to be kept in the loop on his recovery journey.
