Fundraising for Clinton's ongoing blood cancer treatment.
Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui
Clinton and I have shared our lives for over 35 years. He is a wonderful, funloving, talented artist. 6 years ago at age 50 he was diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer called multiple myeloma. He has soldiered through 6 years of treatments. Including radiation, chemotherapy (ongoing) and a major surgery to insert steel rods into his right leg. And still he manages to delight us all with his humour and big heart, despite a league of ongoing issues.
Many of our friends and family have asked if they can help. Till now our wonderful country has fulfilled his medical needs with a series of treatments based on stem cell transplants and thalidomide based chemotherapy. But the next course (pomalidomide) is not funded and requires $24,000 to get it underway. After that, the pharmaceutical company will continue to provide the treatment until it is no longer effective. Due to repeated offers of help over the last 6 years, we are providing this opportunity for others to contribute to his care going forward.
Any funds left over after this treatment will go towards any further care, and his eventual departure. If there is still any excess it will be donated to another worthy cause or recipient.
Clinton is my Civil Union partner, we have been together for over 35 years.
To cover the cost of cancer drug therapy (pomalidomide) for Clinton. If there is any leftover it will go towards future costs of Clinton's treatment and his eventual farewell.
Things going the right way. 26 March 2022
Hi everyone,
We are pleased to pass on the results of Clinton's latest blood tests, showing that the cancer is definitely being suppressed by the new treatment that you all contributed to. After 3 cycles of the treatment the level of cancer is definitely dropping. He will soon undergo radiation on some of the lesions (holes) that have been found in his bones, which should stop them getting any larger.
He is getting slightly better quality of life (less side effects) all round on these meds than on the previous 2 years of treatment, and of course we hope that stays the norm.
Our thanks again to all those who have/are supporting us, sending good vibes and cheering us on. Our gratitude remains as deep as ever. It makes a difference.
Thank you Tracy. That's so nice of you. Much love. The meds are (just) holding the cancer at bay still. It's a rollercoaster and Clinton is standing as strong as he can.
