Help Conquer Caulerpa in Northland by getting in the water and eradicating it before it takes over and smothers our coastline.
Northland
Imagine a time when exotic caulerpa overtakes the pristine Bay of Islands where we now love to fish, dive and swim. There will be no shellfish as this exotic weed chokes the sea bed. It may be impossible to swim, kayak or dive in infested areas as this weed grows upwards and outwards at 30mm every day.
If we do nothing, that time may be here very soon.
We want to ensure that future generations have the same privileges we’ve had - to dive for scallops, kina and other shellfish, swim in pristine bays, kayak and enjoy the marine biodiversity.
Eliminating caulerpa will preserve our environment for future generations and it is up to us all to contribute to the future we want to see. Our Trust is funding divers to get in the water everyday to eradicate caulerpa from our waters.
We also are working in connection with Northland regional council and Mana whenua to provide eradication and regional monitoring.
Trust dedicated to conquering caulerpa across Te Tai Tokerau/Northland. We are a practical based charitable Trust partnering with Council and Mana whenua to get in the water and get the mahi done to eradicate caulerpa.
Funds will go straight to suppling and funding our dive teams across the region to perform eradication and monitoring.
Caulerpa in Northland is getting under control 2 June 2025
The Trust has divers in the water placing benthic mats over small outbreaks to reduce the spread. This has been effective with all areas treated so far reporting dead caulerpa. Please help us keep the dive team in the water, monitoring for any new incursions and treating new outbreaks.
