  • UPDATE: Chemo and immunotherapy

    Hi friends, family & donors:

just a bit of an update regarding my current treatment plan. I have now completed 13 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy and have undergone a CT scan recently. The metastasis in my bladder has grown from 12mm to 22mm and the 3 x spots in my lungs have now grown further to 8mm, 6mm and 5mm respectively. Even with the further growth there has been no further spread and thus my disease is classified as stable.

The last couple of weeks have been quite testing with severe pain symptoms from the tumor in my bladder. Last week I ended up in the emergency department and was hospitalised twice in one week with severe pain due to my bladder cancer. I was referred to a specialist and underwent TURBT surgery yesterday, the urologist managed to scrape off most of the cancer in my bladder but there were places he could not reach. I have been referred for radiation to my bladder in an attempt to kill of the remaining cancer in the bladder.

We are still hopeful and will probably soon start with the second line of chemotherapy as it looks like the first line is not effective anymore. We are also pursuing alternative therapy in an attempt to curtail further spread and growth.

My family and I would like to thank all of our generous donors as we have been able to use your generosity to pay for unfunded treatment and ongoing alternative therapy.

Thank you for your continuous support, may God bless you all!

    Conrad, Yolandi and Sons

I have received my latest CT scan results. The spots on my lungs have increased in size by 1mm to 2mm. The tumour in my blader has also grown by 2mm. The good news is that no new further spread has been detected thus my condition is classified as stable disease.

Should I start showing symptoms due to lung spots I will undergo radiation treatment again.

Thank you to all my donors for supporting us during this incredibly difficult time, we truly appreciate it. I have great news regarding the funding of the unfunded drug treatment, we have reached the compounding CAP and all further compound will be free until we are required to change treatment line.

All additional funds we are able to raise will be used for alternative treatment, we are hopeful that this additional treatment will prolong my life which will afford me more time with my incredible family.

  • Treatment and fund raising update

      27 September 2023

Hi all friends, family, colleagues and generous guest donors. It is about time to give an update regarding my treatment progress as well as the amazing fund raising efforts that have been going on.

    TREATMENT

I went to see my oncologist yesterday after two week of complete hell. I had developed a burn/rash across my face due to too much toxicity from the Cetuximab treatment. As an added bonus my eyebrows decided to fall out leaving looking quite strange looking to be honest.

The feedback received from the oncologist is however really encouraging and keeping my spirits up. From the oncologist experience, patients with facial flare ups have in the past been his patients with the best outcomes, so crossing 🤞.

    FUND RAISING

My amazing colleagues at the Hamilton Connect Offices (Downer & Hamilton City Council Alliance) has taken it upon themselves to come up with some cunning fundraiser events which ended up being very successful. First off to all the quizzers and organisers thank you! My family and I am astonished by your generosity. Secondly to our creative bakers whom arranged a bake sale, wow!!! You have completely blown us away, and to all the customer's I hope you enjoyed the sweet delights that was on offer.

There were also some seriously generous donors during these fundraisers that donated large sums of money. I will thank you personally but thank you so much for your support.

Your support makes an immense difference in me and my family's life, thank you!

  • Baxter Cost change

Hi friends, family, colleagues and guest donors. Today I started round 7 of chemo therapy and round 6 of the unfunded anti-cancer drug called Cetuximab. Treatment is going well and we are managing OK with the side effects. Like I said in a previous update, my body is responding well to the current treatment plan and scans have confirmed the efficacy of the combination of drugs that I am taking.

Today I have received some unfortunate news regarding the cost of the unfunded drug Cetuximab. The price for the drug has gone up by approx. $2000 and the original cost breakdown did not include GST. This news is unsettling as I certainly don't have the money available to pay for these additional costs.

Some mistakes was made when the costs was originally explained to me by the oncologist and due to this they have agreed to give me more time to come up with the funds for further unfunded treatment but without stopping the treatment, thus I am continuing with the unfunded drug treatment.

With this I would come to you again with the hopes of raising the shortfall so that I am able to get to the capped level for Cetuximab. I thank you all for your generosity and hope that you can find it in your hearts to assist my family and I to get the funds to pay all of the outstanding costs. I have attached the letter from the oncologist for your reference.

Thank you all in advance and may God bless you all!

    Friends, family and generous donors

I have really positive news to share, I have received the results of my first CT scan after initial treatment. No NEW or further spread of cancer has been found and all cancerous masses have decreased in size.

This is awesome news and indicates that the treatment I am on is working. I will be continuing with the current treatment plan and after another 6 rounds of chemo and anti-cancer treatment there will be another scan to establish progress.

Thank you all for your support and generous donations, your contribution has made a substantial impact on the treatment I am able to undergo and the results speaks for itself.

Thank you to all from Conrad, Yolandi and sons.

  • Therapy progress

Hi all friends, family and donors. I had a oncologist appointment today and have some updates to share. I will be undergoing my 5th chemotherapy session and 4th Cetuximab session tomorrow and on the 9th of August I will going in for a CT scan to establish progress.

We are hopeful for a positive outcome from the scan and the aim is find that the tumour growth has shrunk and that growth has become under control.

Heck if I am to be greedy I am hoping that surgery might become an option again.

I have also requested the installation of a Portacath so as to make it a lot easier to administer future chemo and for submitting blood samples pending the results of the CT scan.

I wish to thank all of my generous donors whom have made it possible to fund my Cetuximab treatment, you have made it possible for me to focus on my treatment and not to stress about the financial impact it could have caused me and my family. We are truly blessed with amazing people in our lives and the way you have rallied around me and my family with your support is truly a blessing, thank you for your continued support. Conrad, Yolandi and boys.

Hi all friends, family, colleagues and guest donors. I have a bit of an update regarding my treatment which I would like to share. I received my PICC line yesterday and it was pretty painless.

Today I am starting with my 1st cycle of FOLFIRI chemo and this is also going well at this stage. We are still waiting on the results of the tumour DNA testing but I have received my oncologist appointment on the 13th of June. The appointment will be regarding the unfunded anti-cancer drug I am expecting to use based on the DNA test results. I will post an update at that time so as to inform all of you what your generous donations will be applied to. Thank you again for your outpouring of messages of support and your financial contributions, my family and I am totally blown away by your generosity and willingness to care for us. Conrad, Yolandi and sons.

  • Treatment schedule UPDATE

      1 June 2023
    Posted by: Conrad (Willem) Ferreira

Hi friends, family and generous donors. I received my schedule of treatment and we are starting with my treatment a lot sooner than anticipated. This is great news as we want to slow down/manage further cancer spread sooner rather than later.

I am getting a PICC line install on Wednesday the 7th of June which will be used for the purpose of administering long term chemotherapy. My 1st session of the FOLFIRI regimen of chemotherapy treatment will start on Thursday the 8th of June and will be repeated every second week until the end of November.

We are still waiting on the DNA tumor test results which will determine which one of the 2 x unfunded drugs I will be combining with future chemo treatment, however we are expecting to start with this additional anti-cancer treatment from the 2nd treatment cycle onward.

My family and I would like to thank you all for your generous messages of support, prayers and donations, your help is giving me the opportunity to live longer and have a better quality of life.
