Help Jodea and her partner fight for Dakoda's life in Wellington hospital

Wellington

On monday the 17th of September at 40 weeks gestation Jodea went for what she thought was a normal growth scan only to discover that baby has a congenital diaphragm hernia - a hole in her diaphragm which essentially has caused her intestines and spleen to come up into her chest and squash her lungs and push her heart to the wrong side of her body. As a result of this, her left lung is pretty much nonexistent and right lung is much smaller then average making it difficult to know the full extent until she is born, it will be on a touch and go once shes born. Jodea is being induced on Monday the 25th of September and from there Dakoda will be taken straight to NICU in hopes she can be stabilized to have surgery at 5 days old. She will most likely be spending a few months minimum in NICU depending on how her right lung is coping and once she is stabilized, they will do surgery at around 5 days old to fix the diaphragm and put organs in the right place

Use of funds

The money will be used for petrol driving to Wellington hospital from Masterton and accommodation over there as her partner can't stay due to other children and commitments and in worst case scenario it will be used for Dakoda's funeral.

Funds will be paid to Jodea

Update on Dakoda  4 October 2023

Posted by: Jodea Jensen

Dakoda was scheduled for surgery today but that was postponed due to how irritable Dakoda becomes when being touched - she was having a heart scan done where she quickly turnt blue and a worrying change in her numbers showed. She was then considered "critical". She has been put on a higher dose of sedation and changed from fentanyl to morphine which has somewhat worked. They are hoping for this friday for surgery, if she stays stable enough but she still gets quite irritable even for normal cares like washing her face and changing nappy. The doctors are not really wanting her to go another week without surgery being done so are hoping she doesnt take another turn before then. She may also be give a drug to temporarily paralyze her as shes on a high dosage of sedation yet still fighting to be awake and look around.
