I have recently been selected for the New Zealand Under 21 Rowing Team, where I will compete in the men's pair, four and eight.
Waikato
For me this has been a long journey. I came into the season desperate to prove my worth after having a pretty rough winter season filled with failure, so I decided to set a goal of making this team and trained hard for about seven months to get where I am now. Many doubted I could do it, but with a renewed energy and under the excellent guidance of my coach Matt Cameron, I managed to have a very successful Nationals for Waikato Rowing Club where I came away with some awesome results. Then with my pair partner Joel Engelke, we threw everything we had into the selection trial and thankfully earn the right to compete in the Under 21 tests series wearing the silver fern later this year.
I will travel to Sydney, Australia in late June to compete, along with also competing at Karapiro in August as well. I am excited at the opportunity to show the world what I can do on the international stage, and it will be an honor to compete for the country that I love.
However, this is not a funded trip and it all comes at a personal expense of $3000, this covers flights, accommodation, training camp, equipment and uniform. I am a full time student at Waikato University, and I also am training up to 12 times a week to be in peak physical condition, so can not work full time to fund this international campaign. As a result, I am looking to individually fund raise this experience, and the generosity of those reading this may allow me to have the opportunity to do what I love while representing the nation I am proud of.
I would be extremely grateful for any donations, and I don't think I could summarize in words how much it would mean to me, wearing the silver fern has been something I have dreamed about since I was a little kid. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
The use of funds acquired will be used to pay for flights, accommodation, training camps, training costs, equipment and uniform. I am aiming to fund raise $3000.
Hi Dave, thank you very much for your donation. I also have to thank you for the bit you have played in my rowing, some of your technical lessons have had a profound impact. All the best
