Our brother David has a brain injury and an ongoing medical delirium. We need to bring him home to NZ.

Our brother David was involved in a head on collision with a large truck while driving to his home. This resulted in a brain injury with concussion and a second hospital admission with a subsequent ongoing delerium, meaning he has been in Cairns hospital since November. Drs are not 100% sure what is causing this ongoing delirium and whether there will be much, if any improvement which is devastating and heartbreaking for all of us. Due to intermittent border closures in both countries and no MIQ availability on return to NZ currently, his family are unable to travel to be with him. We have tried desperately since mid November to travel to Australia to be with him as he has no immediate family there. At every turn, COVID has blocked our attempts. We've tried for MIQ unsuccessfully, we have tried for charter flights to Australia unsuccessfully. Please help us either get him home by way of a funded medical flight or help one of our family fund living costs due to no viable return date to NZ.

We need to reunite David with his family so he has the best support available to him, ideally back to NZ so he can see our 93 yr old Mum, who due to her own health issues is unable to travel. David is desperate to have family with him and to see our Mum.

Use of funds

Either a medical flight to help David get home to NZ from Australia or to help cover living costs for a family member to be with him while NZ borders are shut. Any unused funds donated to Brain Injury New Zealand.

Medical update 7.1.22  7 January 2022

Last night we were given the worst possible news that David may have a diagnosis of an aggressive dementia, this is soul destroying to hear, for him and his family. Made more upsetting by missing out on MIQ again. Returning to NZ is a near impossibility, until March (hopefully).
