Please help my brother gain a little independence, as he battles this muscle weakness disease that has stolen his quality of life.
Waikato
For the past 7 years my brother Conan has lived with the muscle weakness disease called Muscle Myopathy which is a form of Muscular dystrophy. This genetic disease has seen him slowly lose his muscle control, becoming wheelchair bound, to not even being able to pick up a cup, or knife and fork, as his motor skills have wasted away.
As Conan is well beyond being able to ever drive himself again having a specifically modified vehicle that he could have for his caregivers to drive him that fits his power chair in would make what life he has left so much easier. Currently he relies on public transport. He just wants to try and live as independently as he can for as long as his body will allow him to. As a young, 34-year-old male that is not too much to ask for out of life.
We would like to raise funds to purchase a vehicle for Conan to be used by his caregivers to help ease his life a little, and to be used by my parents so they can take him out and about to see family and friends, visit his hometown of Waihi and try and enjoy what life he has left.
As Conan’s older sister I have watched my brother deteriorate and I feel helpless that I can’t do anything to help. If this is the only thing I can do to help my brother enjoy the rest of his life as best as he can then I will do what I can. Please help my brother by donating what you can, even if it was $1 every cent counts, and is so appreciated. Thank you for your time.

A massive thank you 16 June 2022
Thank you everyone your donations have meant alot. Between give a little and other donations etc we have been able to save enough money for my brothers van.
It recently was my Mum's birthday and for the first time since Conan my brother moved to Hamilton he was able to attend a family dinner at our place (without hiring a van) for her birthday. Mum told me last night it was the best birthday ever!! And to see my brother happy was amazing xx
Before Conan moved to Hamilton mum & dad were his caregiver for 6 years they used to painfully move him by hand from his wheelchair to the car to get him around. My brother used to get very upset at the pain & it physically took a toll on mum. It got to the point they could no longer do that, & with the system so unhelpful regarding his needs he moved to Hamilton to try receive more help.
Massive thank you again to everyone who supported my brothers journey to get this van from donations to shares to just being supportive. We are very humbled and 100% grateful 🙏 you have given our brother a new lease of life ❤️ xx
Also a massive shout out to Kate's kabs from Katikati this lady didn't know my family until she helped us at Christmas find a van for the day, all vans were booked but she displayed kindness towards our family and found us a van. Then with her connections she found this van for my brother to purchase.. what a truly amazing lady ❤️ if you need a kab she's your lady x
