Fundraising for a defibrillator to equip me as a volunteer Community First Responder and help save lives in our community.
Canterbury
Kia ora, my name is Mel and I’m delighted to share that I’ve recently signed up as a volunteer Community First Responder, verified by Hato Hone St John via the GoodSAM platform. https://www.goodsamapp.org/home
GoodSAM connects life-threatening emergencies to nearby volunteer responders using GPS, availability, and the equipment we carry. When an emergency occurs — such as cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, choking, or severe bleeding — we’re alerted and can accept the call. The first 5–10 minutes are critical, and we are trained in CPR and basic lifesaving skills.
I know how much those early minutes matter. I once performed CPR on my mother until Firefighters and Paramedics arrived, and it helped with her survival. That experience is why I chose to volunteer.
I’ve assembled a comprehensive first aid kit, including an EpiPen. My goal now is to add a defibrillator (AED), which can restore a normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest and save precious time before ambulance crews arrive.
As this is a voluntary role, there is no funding for equipment. I’ll begin by contributing the first $100 and am seeking support to purchase:
• St John PowerBeat X1 – $2,760
OR
• St John PowerBeat X3 – $3,393
• Carry case – $207
Any contribution, big or small, helps bring this lifesaving equipment into our community.
Thank you for considering.
With Gratitude
Mel
