Help Faiza get back to Somalia to support her father

$4,220 of $4,000 goal
Given by 60 generous donors in 17 days

Community fundraiser to help Faiza, a wonderful community advocate, to get home to support her unwell father.

Wellington

Our dear friend Faiza Abukar needs to go back to Somalia to help her father who is severely ill. He had a stroke and now has malaria.

Faiza is one of those people who has given tirelessly to others in our community despite having little financial means. After nearly ten years of community volunteering she was made one of the Kiwibank New Zealand Local Heroes in 2021.

We are three community-based workers and close friends of Faiza. We have seen at close hand the struggles Faiza has been through and her incredible generosity.

We urge you to contribute and enable her to go back to Somalia to help her ill father. She has been unable to return since leaving 17 years ago.

This fundraiser has the goal of covering just the main international airfare, but ideally would raise more to cover other flights, travel and medical and general care costs. Anything you are able to contribute before the 24th of January will really make a difference.

Use of funds

Airfares (international and domestic transfers), accommodation, medical expenses (treatment, medicine and medical care). If we don't meet the target, all funds will be used to cover some of the travel costs and anything else that is possible.

Faiza is on her way to Somalia!  25 January 2023

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Dear friends, family and supporters, what an incredible outpouring of kindness and generosity. Your contribution has enabled this trip to happen.

We farewelled Faiza on Sunday am. She is finally going to be reunited with her parents. It is such an emotional time and we are hoping her return helps contribute to her fathers recovery.

We are keeping this fundraiser open until Waitangi day, any additional funds over the flight costs can go towards medical/ care and associated costs.

We cannot thank you all enough for helping make this happen.

Hope to have some more photos to share in the next few days.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
