Struggling to survive, to buy basic food to feed their family, developing countries like Bali are hit harder than most by Covid.
Bay of Plenty
2 years ago my heart was so full...today it's breaking in 2.
Covid has ripped the dream this young man has worked so hard for, right out from under him. And there's no end in sight.
Yogi literally had 1 foot on a cruise ship job as Covid hit... Now he's spent the last 12 months at home with his family of 8, desperate for work, desperate to earn to feed his family, desperate to DO SOMETHING.
But there's nothing where he lives. There's nothing anywhere in Bali, because there are no tourists.
His family have no land. They can't grow food. They live off leftovers from neighbours when the money I send from myself and generous friends runs out.
I can't get him to NZ for work because we're not letting anyone in to pick fruit for orchardists who are crying out for workers.
It's desperately hard. I feel so helpless. I hate seeing this young man who wants to work, who wants to build a life, who has worked so hard, just waste away at home not able to do anything.
We wrack our brains for solutions. There is none.
His mother is the only income earner in the family, making small offering baskets to sell at the market to feed a family of 9. Yogi is their future. He has a good education and speaks great English. The world was his oyster until Covid hit.
Yogi's family eat 2 meals a day - Breakfast and Dinner. They have to make the money I send stretch as much as possible. 2 meals a day for 9 mouths costs NZD$250 a month (rice, meat and veges).
Any small donation will help feed this family of 9 and not make it such a struggle for us all.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for anything you can give. Bless you. xxxxxxxxxx
I have been sponsoring Yogi for the past 10 years. These people are my Bali family and I have visited them regularly. I speak with Yogi weekly via Whatsapp to help keep him mentally strong and to get updates on their situation.
To help buy food for Yogi's family of 9 in the dry east coast of Bali.
Things are going well 26 July 2022
Well things are going well for Yogi and family. He's been very busy since being home, it certainly hasn't been a holiday or much downtime for him!
He's got his sister Ari settled into a boarding house in Denpasar where she's at Japanese Language school. She's doing REALLY well and getting amazing marks on her exams - 100% and A+. So very proud of her, it can't be an easy language to learn!
And their 2nd to youngest sister Winda is off to elementary school. She's another bright cookie and will do well I know.
Yogi has also had to get new paperwork done for visa requirements and onboarding for his next contract which begins at the end of September. It's been a bit of a whirlwind so far, but hopefully he'll get some downtime as he gets closer to leaving again...the time will go quickly, after all we're already staring down the barrel of August!
I've popped more images in the gallery.
Thanks for keeping interested... until next time xx
