The children have had a busy holidays enjoying every minute of being surrounded by their family. They’ve enjoyed every moment they can with their cousin including making the most of sleepovers, being around her horse and learning what to do.

Medically the scans show nothing has returned on the left lung since the surgery, and the right lung remains to have the small nodules but they have not grown any bigger so nothing yet happens. Flynn has another appointment this Wednesday just to meet the team and get to know the hospital area.

One thing Flynn has always wanted to try is be on tv, and it’s now happening. Sara nominated Wendy from the Pink Limo for good sorts as she offers so much for people going through tough times, and coincidentally when Hayden Jones was in Christchurch Wendy was due to pick Flynn and everyone up for a ride in her convertible so him, Layla and Anna will get to feature on the good sorts show alongside Wendy doing her amazing things!

We have been busy all settling in and loving Christchurch life and being surrounded by family. Our exciting road trip became one we will never forget with sickness leading up to it and tummy bugs before and during the travel! The kids loved the experience of the ferry, but most off all landing at their new home with a special welcome organised by their cousin Anna. There is nothing like family and the close support offered!

They have both settled in amazingly to their new school, Yaldhurst Model School. Flynn is loving learning unihoc at lunch with his new mates along with his longtime favourite game of soccer. Layla is loving being social and plans a million play dates with friends. We will always miss Huirangi and thank them for the amazing school and support they offered us this year!

Medically Flynn will have his next test/scan in about 2-3 weeks and other follow up appointments in October so we can get to know the oncology team down here and discuss all options and plans.

Again no one will ever know or fanthom how much your support has touched our hearts and changed our lives making the financial stress a little less through this give a little page, and the endless other auctions, donations, raffles and offerings we have been given. We are truly blessed and it makes the world of difference for how we are able to be present and in the moment enjoy experiences with the children.

We would also like to thank Wendy who owns Pink Limo for her kindness and generosity!

Huirangi School is full of kindness, love and a huge amount of support for wee Flynn and his family, they have kindly donated all their fundraising from the Colour Run to help our wee Flynn.

Thank you all at Huirangi School for the love, kindness and support you have given wee Flynn and his family during this incredibly tough and sad time, you all have made such a huge difference in this family’s life❤️‍🩹

Firstly we would like to thank everyone who has helped us out and offered to help it’s been incredible.

We have made a decision to move back to Canterbury to be around family and closer to a good hospital and more options for Flynn it’s been a tough decision to make as we love Taranaki and we have met some great people here.

Flynn is doing well and is very happy to be back at school both Flynn and his five year old sister Layla are looking forward to the road trip South next week.

    Thank you all

  • Update from Brock and Tegan following surgery on Monday

      19 August 2023

Firstly a massive thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. These funds will be used to seek all alternative options to supplement the surgeries that the hospital is able to offer.

Flynn has now had his first surgery, the wait to see him wake up and be out was a little longer then expected but we were back with him by 6pm. He did so well we were discharged to Ronald MacDonald after one night. He aced it and wasn’t phased by the chest drain removal and has taken to pulling out his own IV lines to celebrate getting off all the machines he gets hooked up to. He is still tender but that is all to be expected and he doesn’t let that hold him back, he was desperate to see friends and his amazing teachers at Huirangi school so even managed a 2 hour school visit on Friday morning.

With successful recovery happening from his first surgery, still lurking in the background is the awaited pathology results that will be able to tell us whether they are happy they got clear margins and removed what’s on his left lung properly. Decisions in the right lung remain to be made at his next round of scans and testing.

We cannot put into words how appreciative we are of all the support through the give a little page, messages and gestures from all over the New Zealand communities and the many things that are happening beyond the give a little, we are absolutely speechless and forever grateful.

  • A huge Thank you and an update from Brock and Tegan

      8 August 2023

We are overwhelmed with the generosity and support from everyone, we could never put into words how much it is appreciated and has touched our hearts in such hard times, it leaves us speechless.

Flynn seems well and healthy and is in good spirits with his usual humour, and well thought out questions and wondering about it all.

We now know surgery will happen on his left lung, which has been pencilled in for this week so long as the strikes weren’t happening, however this hasn’t yet been confirmed so we are just waiting for the call and ready to go.

There appears to be a small amount in his right lung - too small to currently operate, so six weeks after his first surgery he will have checkup scans and it is likely another surgery planned then.

Thank you so very much to each and every one of you for your thoughts, kind words and support that will allow us to seek alternative chances to give him the best shot
