Support for Adella and her family through viral encephalitis.
Otago
This page has been created in support of Adella (3 yo) and her parents Prairie and Nick.
Earlier this month, Adella caught a virus which rapidly progressed to be more serious. After numerous visits to the doctor, Adella was helicoptered from her hometown to Dunedin Hospital for further testing.
The results of a MRI and spinal tap confirmed that she has viral encephalitis, which is swelling in the brain due to the virus. Her cerebellum has been the most affected which is impacting her motor skills.
Adella is an absolute ray of sunshine with the most infectious giggle and smile. This page has been created in support of her, and her parents Prairie and Nick as they navigate her treatment and support. The funds will be used for accommodation, travel and food costs for the family, as well as any additional treatments that fall outside of the free medical services on offer.
I am a close friend of this incredible family.
Any contributions will be spent on support for Adella, Prairie and Nick at this time with medical bills, travel and living costs.
An update and thank you from Prairie, Nick and Adella 7 July 2022
An update from Prairie:
Hi everyone,
Currently, we're still in Dunedin. Our Zoom call with the Wilson neuro rehab in Auckland was cancelled this week due to the lead doctor being sick so we’ll pick that up next week. We have an appointment with a pediatric neurologist on Monday here in Dunedin. After that we'll know where we're headed over the next few months. For now the plan is Physio, OT and speech and language therapist weekly at our house in Wānaka.
Adella can eat on her own again, she’s trying like hell to relearn to walk again and do all the fine/gross motor movements. No speech yet but I'm praying that comes back soon.
We are so incredibly grateful for the support and community we have around us, it has meant so much to all of us during this time.
That’s us for now. So looking forward to being home xx
