Help for Katie and family after she and her toddler were victims of a head on collision by a teen under the influence
Auckland
On Jan 26, 2023, Katie took her two year old daughter Freya to go strawberry picking. On the way there, a teen under the influence of drugs in a Ute cut a corner and drove up the hood of their van. Katie suffered a broken ankle, a concussion, multiple sprains, deep lacerations that required surgery and severe bruising, and had to be cut out of the van. Freya was luckily unharmed due to being in a properly installed rear facing car seat. We've been told by police that they are both extremely lucky to be alive, but Katie will require further surgery and ongoing physical therapy. Both she and her husband are very traumatised and overwhelmed from the experience so I’m setting this up on her behalf.
Currently we are trying to raise some money for Katie, her husband Ben and their daughter Freya as they are waiting on whether there will be court proceedings. They will be seeking reparations against the other driver but this will take months. They’re currently without a vehicle and ACC has left them in the lurch. Anything helps!
Katie and Ben are two of my closest friends, Freya is my adoptive niece.
Day to day living expenses while Katie is off work due to injury, legal expenses, transportation
