Help for the Jenkinson's - Hamish's Journey

Raising funds to help this gorgeous family with any financial pressures faced through Hamish's health journey.

Hastings, Hawke's Bay

August 2022, my gorgeous friends lives were turned completely upside down.

Hamish had been feeling breathless, developed an audible wheeze and had started experiencing occassional chest pain. He put it down to being unfit and maybe injured himself playing with his kids Ethan (7) and Thea (3).

He went to his Doctor who ordered a Chest X-ray which showed a very large mass which was displacing most of his right lung and diaphragm. He has been undergoing countless tests in an attempt to identify exactly what this tumor is and to plan effective treatment and management moving forward.

At this stage, diagnosis is still unclear until the tumor is removed and sent for pathology. His delicate treatment will commence with open thoracic surgery which will take place early November in Wellington after a few more tests are completed for the surgical teams planning.

This has understandably been a very lengthy and stressful process.

This page is to help ease some of the additional financial pressures that they are currently facing, especially in regards to funding travel and accomodation. Surgery is away from home (and children) and Hamish faces a significant rehabilitation period.

Hamish and Sarah are amazing parents to 2 busy little people and so home life is already "busy" and "stressful" at the best of times, let alone adding the emotional and financial pressure of this journey. Please help me to help them get through this.

HAMISH'S personal update!! 😁  24 January 2023

How good...finally last week, getting out and about with the family, enjoying some of the summer ❤️❤️

Update..

Now ticked off the 6 week check ✅

Best news of a super shitty, stressful year = pathology came back, they’ve tested and tested and tested a bit more, and we are incredibly relieved that no further treatment is needed 💪

Extremely lucky to have dodged the biggest bullet (all 3.5kg of it 🫣) ever.

We have photos of the surgery and tumour,so DM Hamish if your interested and not to squeamish 🫣🤢

Will be kept a close eye on from here on in, another scan in 6 months and then yearly from there. Pain meds are the new daily routine, with nerve (and cut) pain management top priority, to manage ongoing chronic pain and allow daily functioning plus sleep.

Rehab is where it’s at now - trying to build up the muscles that have been cut right through. If you know your anatomy you will appreciate that there are a lot of muscles to fix 🫣

Lots of ideas on how to do that, working with hospital physio, looking at pools/hydrotherapy, getting work fit is the big goal. ‘Normal’ won’t be for at least another year.

Thank you to everyone who has shown us such amazing support , we feel so much gratitude 🙏 We’ve had people from all over the world 🌎 message, phone and txt during this time to share their love, support and words of wisdom. It makes you appreciate the friendships that you have made over the years ❤️ True friends are there when you most need them 💪🏻

This incredibly stressful and at times surreal journey, has brought a new perspective on who and what is truly important to us. After almost clocking out a couple of times during surgery and scaring the life out of Sarah, it makes you appreciate the little things in life more.

Life is short - don’t take what you have for granted ❤️ Enjoy the little moments ❤️
