Funds to help a sweet little boy have a somewhat normal life again
Waikato
One of my best friends 2 year old son Frankie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in December 2020. It’s been a scary journey and sadly the government doesn’t help to fund the expensive equipment that would greatly improve Frankie’s day-day life. Being so young, it’s hard for him to be monitored, to eat what he needs, to burn off carbs when his levels are too high, or to tell his Family when his levels are too low. Being low is extremely dangerous and could lead to a comatose state, with the necessary equipment steph and her partner can better keep an eye on everything as the monitor checks his levels for them, which means less finger pricking and a more restful sleep knowing he’s safer.
Such a small person doesn’t understand what’s going on and why he now has to do all these new things, this family have already been through so much and anything that can make their lives easier is something I wish I could make happen. It’s a yearly investment but I’d like to help make a start in bettering Frankie’s future. Any donation no matter how small will help immensely, every cent counts.
The equipment needed checks his BGL without needing figure pricks, it will alert his parents when he’s about to have a hypo (when your blood glucose level (also called blood sugar) is too low), and update them on their phones with how he is. This particular device Is the only one that is made for his age group, the other one starts at age 4, this one starts at age 2.
Steph and her partner nick are very close friends of mine, my daughter is also close with their three kids, especially Frankie who she video calls almost daily. This family is basically my family and I’d love for them to have some normality back.
All money raised goes toward expensive medical equipment to help a little boys life become slightly manageable
Help Frankie’s family live an easier life 22 October 2021
Hi Guys!
Just wanted to give an update with how everything has been going for Frankie and his family, and what the next move is regarding his diabetes. Things have definitely improved since Frankie’s family were able to get him the Dexcom to help them track his levels better which also meant less finger pricks for the little man! But unfortunately the renewal of the Dexcom is a yearly thing and it is not funded so Frankie’s family are looking to share Frankie’s story further in hopes of receiving a little extra help :) It’s $5000 a year for a new Dexcom and that’s just for the machine, there’s also everything else that comes with having a type 1 diabetic kid, while also raising two other children. Frankie still doesn’t show symptoms sometimes when he’s having a hypo which is a really scary thing for any parent, and the Dexcom alerts his parents so that they can help him before it gets worse. This givealittle page has closed now so if the family decide to create a new one it’ll be linked here :)
