Jay, a 17-year-old living in Blenheim, needs your help to fund surgery in Christchurch for endometriosis. Thank you!
Marlborough
This has been difficult for us to ask, but we need your help for Jay. Jay is a 17-year-old teen living in Blenheim with their Mum (who was made redundant due to Covid) and their sister. Jay is in the process of being diagnosed with endometriosis. However, the only way to find out for sure is through laparoscopic surgery in Christchurch.
Endometriosis is when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus gets deposited and begins to grow in other areas of the body.
Jay has been bed-ridden anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks every month for six years with severe pain. Jay experiences painful prolonged periods and bleeding, severe fatigue, nausea, vomiting, bowel issues, bladder pain, and more.
Jay is in Year 12 at high school and has missed so much school that we're not sure if they'll achieve NCEA. Jay has one more year at school, so surgery and treatment will ensure that they have a future.
We've hit a brick wall with the public health system in New Zealand. Endometriosis doesn't show up on MRI scans, but that's all that they would do for Jay.
The surgery that you will be helping to fund will see how far the endometriosis has spread and the surgeon will also operate on what they find. We suspect that it is not mild, but is deep infiltrating and possibly Stage 4. This means that Jay's organs are likely glued together, with significant scar tissue and adhesions.
Without this surgery, Jay's lifelong pain will continue to worsen, and Jay will have an increased risk of fertility issues, ovarian cancer, and breast cancer.
We need to raise these funds ASAP to go towards Jay's hospital bills in Christchurch, further tests and scans and follow-up appointments.
Your contribution means so much to Jay and Jay's family. If you're not able to donate at this time, please share this campaign.
Thank you!

The funds raised will help pay Jay's hospital bills, tests, scans & appointments. Any amount raised in excess of expenses will go to endometriosis research & non-profits. If we don't reach our goal, then we will try other funding sources & fundraising.
Jay's First Surgery Result 19 November 2020
Jay's initial surgery yesterday was a success. Jay stayed one night in hospital and was discharged by 10am. The surgeon said it was Stage 2 Endo with 2 areas of adhesion on the middle and the left side. The left side had adhesions near the bowel which was causing Jay the most pain and causing blockages. This would have been a serious risk to Jay's health without surgery. So the surgery was very necessary and we made the right decision to have it now. After a few months'of recovery, Jay should be feeling much better, according to the surgeon. Jay now has the summer to recover as school is finished. Jay's final exam was the day before surgery and we drove down to Christchurch immediately following the exam. Jay is sore but cheerful. 🙂
