Fundraising to make the world a little better for a special wee boy, with the help of his best friend - Covie the Labrador.
Saint Albans, Christchurch
With your help, we were able to fund Covies foundation training and his application fee to apply into the programme to become an assistance dog.
See our old page here https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/help-covie-become-huxleys-assistance-dog
Since then, Covie has been approved into the programme with Perfect Partners Assistance Dogs Trust (PPADT) which is incredible! However, we still need help raising funds to cover Covies training! We have been quoted roughly $720 per 8 sessions, and Covie will need these every fortnight well into next year.
We are doing all we can to get these funds but this is where we need help from the wider community to help our dream of Covie becoming Huxleys disability assistance dog, become a reality.
Having Covie as a disability assistance dog will greatly improve Huxleys rehabilitation and everyday life, by providing deep pressure therapy, lowered risk of Huxley absconding, confidence to access social outings, help when Huxley is feeling dysregulated, offer support when he is feeling sensory overloaded and overall to provide comfort and security for the world that is too overwhelming for Huxley.
For context - Huxley suffered a Complex Traumatic Brain Injury at birth (Hypoxic-Ischemic-Encephalopathy), due to cord compression which led to oxygen deprivation for a minimum of 14 minutes. This has caused global developmental delay (social interaction, speech, language and communication), sensory struggles, behavioural concerns including a massive flight risk.
Training sessions for Covie through SitHappens to further his obedience and foundation training to become a disability assistance dog.
