Help get Briar and Emily to the World Junior Ultimate Frisbee Championships in England!

  • NZ U20’s 5th in the World!!!

      29 July 2024

It’s been a massive week of hard fought games against the best in the world and now the Junior World Ultimate Frisbee Championships is over. We are so proud to say that we made history by placing 5th - the best ever result for a NZ U20 team (men or women).

The schedule was pretty brutal with two games most days. We won 5 and lost 3 and came back to beat Japan in a playoff for 5th and 6th, after they beat us in pool play. Games went as follows:

    NZL 15 - 2 IRL

    NZL 15 - 3 SGP

    FRA 15 - 7 NZL

    CAN 15 - 10 NZL

    JPN 15 - 8 NZL

    NZL 15 - 1 AUS

    NZL 15 - 3 GBR

    NZL 13 - 12 JPN

France won the Women’s Division beating USA in the final.

It has been such an awesome experience for us. We have pushed ourselves so hard against very tough international competition along-side our team mates and with the support of all of those around us. We’ve made some amazing friends and are so appreciative of the opportunity.

Thank you all so very much for helping make this happen! These are memories we will hold on to forever!

    Briar & Emily

  • Final Preparations Complete!

      11 July 2024

It's a wrap! We completed our last fundraising drive, the final NZ U20 'Kahu' prep camp, bags are packed and we fly out tomorrow morning!!!!! We're so excited to be going to Europe to represent NZ, and just so grateful for all the support from everyone!! Recent donations (the Williams's, Poppa Brec & Jess and our parents) have got us over the line. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!

Our first week involves training, a bit of sight-seeing in between and a few 'friendly' games with local clubs and perhaps 1-2 other international teams. Second week it's down to business - with the opening day 21 July and a game against Ireland. The next two days is pool play, then depending on how that goes we'll be in games that will define our finals placing.

Some of the games should be live streamed/recorded on UltiWorld: https://ultiworld.com/event/163057/2024-world-junior-ultimate-championships/

Watching games will require a subscription of $20-ish. Not all games are live-streamed/recorded as there are 12 fields in action and they just can't cover everything. From what we can tell (coverage details not yet confirmed) it is likely that our women's team pool play games against Singapore and France (on 22nd July) will be will covered. Some of the NZ Men's (Open) team games are also likely to be covered.

All game schedules, general info and results are available on the tournament website: https://www.wjuc.sport/

We'll keep you all updated with progress.

    Thanks again!

    Briar and Emily x

  • Auckland Indoor Ultimate Frisbee Champions

We had a great result at the Auckland Secondary Schools Ultimate Frisbee Indoor Championships a couple of weeks ago. Our Takapuna Grammar Girls team won all games and took home the championship trophy after beating Epsom Girls Grammar School in the final 6-2. EGGS have been so dominant for so long - they've held the trophy for the last 9 years! So, it was pretty cool to break their winning streak. We now have the outdoor and indoor titles for 2024! Such great preparation for our U20 Worlds campaign!

  • Movie Night!

      10 May 2024

Last Thursday was our Movie Night - The Fall Guy - at the Takapuna Beachside Cinemas. It was awesome to see so many friends and family come along and support us. It was a really fun and successful night - a sell out!

Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and came along - we really appreciate it! The movie night, together with those who have donated outside of Givealittle since the last update (on 28 April), has enabled us to reduce our fundraising goal again - this time by $1,600! Special thanks to Karen & Norman Ramsay, Paul & Christine Butler, Richard & Julie Butler, Paul & Jo Trendall, Rob & Sarah Douglas, Countdown Hauraki, and Anthony & Kirsty Gobbie / Insurance Design for donating to our fundraising account. You guys are amazing! With only 9 weeks to go before we leave for the UK, it is exciting to see us getting closer and closer to our target. We originally needed over $19,000 and now we are just over $4,000 away from it. With everyone's generosity, and our hard work behind the scenes, we are on track to reach our goal. Thanks so much everyone!

Thanks to some hard graft from Briar and Emily (selling fudge at various locations), as well as generous donations from Stellar Projects, Amy and Josh (all outside of the Givealittle platform), we're pleased to be able to reduce the target fundraising amount by $2,650! A special thank you to these donors and everyone else who continue to support Briar and Emily : )

  • Fudge Fundraiser and School Champs

      23 March 2024

We have been busy selling fudge as a fundraiser towards our World's campaign. Sales are going well and we've made approximately $500 so far. We have reduced our goal by another $3,500 to include these sales and $3,000 contribution from our parents, who paid our first installment to NZ Ultimate last week. Awesome!!

We have changed the closing date as well to align with final payments required by NZ Ultimate.

March has been a very busy training and tournament month. Our TGS Girls team won the Auckland Secondary Schools Champs! This is a big deal as Epsom Girls Grammar have held this trophy since 2014!! Our Premier School Team have just returned from the National Secondary Schools Championship in Taupo, where we placed third and also won the Team Spirit Award as judged by our peers/opposition at the tournament. We are now in Wellington with our women's club team (Misfits) at the New Zealand Division 1 Championship tournament. We will update you with how that goes.

Thank you for your continued support and for following our fundraising progress.

    Briar & Emily : )

      25 February 2024

With part-time work in January, we've reduced our end-goal from $19,200 down to $18,000. Thank you Wendy & Wayne for giving us an opportunity to do some work for you. We have some other fundraising plans in motion and will keep you posted on how we go :)
