He has given a lot to the community as a Vol firefighter and suffered serious facial and internal burns while attending a house fire in 1998
Canterbury
Graham was diagnosed with MND in 2014, a cruel disease that affects the nerve endings, gradually wasting away muscle tone, and eventually the ability to walk, breathe and swallow. The average life expectancy for someone newly diagnosed with MND is 2 - 5 years (but he is still going strong!).
Graham was a volunteer firefighter for 35 years in New Brighton and in Omokoroa. He was extremely active in the past as a firefighter and also competing in multisport events, finishing the two day Coast to Coast in 2003. While he can still walk at the moment, he cannot go far before he becomes extremely fatigued. His mobility and balance are poor and slowly worsening.
He would like to get an Alinker walking bike so that he can remain active in the community, along with his best friend Stella (dalmatian). We will also have a couple of quiz nights in Christchurch and in Milton, where Graham’s sister lives.
People often say "let me know if I can help" and this could be it. Let's keep Twink on his feet and active while he's able.
I am a friend and former Volunteer firefighter who would like to see Graham be able to be much more mobile
To purchase a Alinker a non-motorized walking-bike without pedals.
Any funds raised over and above the cost of the Alinker and its cartage will be donated direct to the MND Association.
