This family has been traumatised, most Of all Sonny. Let’s get a smile on his face again.

Bay of Plenty

Last week, the home of single mother Shannon Avery and her three children came under attack by the grace of God, Shan’s two gorgeous girls were at their father's place.

Shan had stepped out to the supermarket. Meanwhile, a man known to the family was pouring flammable liquids into the downstairs area of the unit they live in. Shannon’s son, Sonny (just 14 years old), found the man attempting to light the building on fire, screamed for help, and raised the alarm. He was so very brave in what must’ve been a terrifying moment and I am so, so proud of him.

Understandably, Sonny is traumatised.

On 21 February 2018, the family returned to their home, and soon found that someone had since broken into the house (most likely unrelated) and stolen the new gaming computer Shannon had worked SO hard to get Sonny for Christmas.

Shan is a single mum, Sonny’s father is deceased, and he certainly doesn’t get stuff often. This computer was his ULTIMATE pride and joy and therefore an unbelievably crushing blow, for him to try to cope with on top of the serious trauma he had just been put through.

Shan has put out a plea on Facebook for us all to be diligent and keep an eye out for someone with new equipment/or perhaps trying to onsell the equipment.

I quote: “PLEASE ON MY LIFE if you see anyone trying to sell this, PLEASE let me or the police know. It can be anonymous - I don’t care, my son is destroyed and getting it back for him would at least start to help. No one could understand all this kid has been through. Also stolen were monitor, keyboard, mouse and headphones, but the hard drive is most distinctive, lights up like a spaceship when turned on.”

I will attach a photo of the computer drive...

However - let’s do one better.

Let’s not let the darkness win.

Let’s get Sonny a replacement for all that was taken from him.

Let's let Sonny choose his dream replacement.

Let’s NOT show this brave, brave 14-year-old boy that no one cares about what’s happened to him - no, let’s rise up and show him the opposite! That we WILL NOT stand criminals - be they attempting murder or be they thieves, that good will ALWAYS triumph over bad.

Our collective good can make all the difference in Sonny’s life, at such a critical age.

Join with me. Small actions can collectively make great change and we CAN do this for Sonny, and f* it, maybe a little more, to show Shannon and her two other kiddies that we are here and we CARE.

If everyone I knew put in $10, imagine what a difference to this wee family, we could make. We live so much in isolation these days, but in my heart, I know we long for community, and when I hear of little families, just like mine, suffering - I am overwhelmed with the desire to help.

Help me help Shan and her family.... especially brave, BRAVE Sonny. I love you all.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
