Calling on community to help a hospo hero!
Hamilton East, Hamilton
If you know Hayes Common, you know Hayden. For almost ten years he’s been welcoming guests through our doors with his big smile, genuine kōrero and warm, thoughtful service.
You may also know that after an accident last Christmas, Hayden has spent much of this year managing a serious arm injury — one that has made it impossible for him to work. In an ideal world, ACC support would have carried him through this time, but that process is still ongoing. In the meantime, we’re stepping in as best we can.
If you’ve ever wanted to support Hayden, now is your chance. All proceeds will go directly towards helping him and his whānau over the coming months — covering everyday essentials, easing financial pressure, and helping ensure they can enjoy Christmas while he continues his recovery.
Hayden will be back with us part-time over summer as he rebuilds his strength (and works his way back to carrying plates!), but this alone isn’t enough to sustain his whānau. At an already expensive time of year, we’re calling on our community to help make this a Christmas remembered for the right reasons — generosity, kindness and aroha.
Hayden is part of our hospo whanau! He's part of what makes Hayes Common what it is, he is a true hospo legend, and he is never one to ask for help - so we're stepping in!
Money will go towards sustaining Hayden's whanau with cost of living over the summer until he can return to full work.
Message of gratitude from Hayden 20 December 2025
Wow I'm not sure where to start...
Thank you to all for the aroha, kindness and support you have shown to me and my Whanau it's truly amazing and overwhelming to be honest, we can't thank you enough. It's been a challenging year for me both physically and mentally, having worked so little on and off due to my injury. The reality of keeping a roof over our heads, bellies fed and the bills up to date was starting to feel near impossible, but with all the generosity you have shown us there is a ray of hope. How blessed we feel right now is beyond belief.
I also personally want to thank you for all the warm regards and well wishes. I am definitely on the mend and it feels like the air is lighter to breathe and the sky is brighter than it's been in a while. I can now focus on recovering and getting back to doing what I Love. To my beautiful wife and children thank you for you resilience and your endless aroha and happiness ❤️. Thank you to Brent, Lisa and @Hayes community(my whanau)... and this is why I love my job.
A very Merry Christmas to you all and may you be blessed with peace, hope, good health and love in the year to come ❤️
Hayden
