Fundraising page to help race driver James Winslow overcome his injuries sustained in his racing accident in Abu Dhabi 2017.
Unspecified
As you may, or may not know, pro racing driver James Winslow suffered a major accident in his Ligier LMP3 race car at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi just before Christmas late last year while competing in the Gulf 12 Hour race.
His car suffered a complete brake failure at one of the fastest parts of the circuit, leaving the track at 240kph before hitting the wall head on at 150kph. Thankfully, the car and the barrier did their job in minimising the impact, however, James still didn't make it out of accident unscathed.
As he hit the wall he broke his spine in two places, broke his chest/ sternum, broke a wrist, ended up with internal bruising, a damaged spleen, post trauma vertigo, and a concussion which left him in a hospital in Abu Dhabi before he was able to fly home to Australia and now has to lay on his back for over a month to recover, and with no health insurance, the medical bills keep climbing.
For James, not only are the injuries painful, equally as hurtful is the loss of income he faces from having to miss out races for himself and his sponsors due to these injuries.
Now it is our turn to help.
I've had the pleasure of meeting James twice. The first time in Malaysia when i visited to watch the racing the in the Asian Le Mans Series, and the second time at Yas Marina Circuit a few days before his accident where I was testing the exact car he had his accident with. James has always been generous with his time, knowledge and helped me to improve on my own driving. He is also a mentor and driver coach to many of the worlds up and coming race drivers who I know all look up to him also.
James often puts others before himself and is also well known for saving the life of Moreno Soeprapto during an accident while racing in Formula 3.
This fundraising will help James with his recovery by providing finances to cover medical bills, loss of income and the basics so he only has to focus on recovery.
