Help Jason get to Tokyo 2019

I've been given an opportunity to represent New Zealand on the world stage and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Waikato

My name is Jason Nel. I am 17 years old and currently attend St Peters School, as Deputy Head Boy and Head prefect of my boarding house. Over my time at high school, I've completed five seasons of rowing.

I have been selected to row for New Zealand at the World Under 19 Champs in Japan in August this year in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls. Unfortunately, this selection comes with a substantial cost of approx. $10,000.00.

As part of my selection, I am required to move into the Podium Lodge Cambridge, in order to complete 2 months worth of training. After this, our squad will fly over to Tokyo in preparation for the Junior World Championship. So, this is the reason for seeking aid for funding and below I’ll outline my journey that got me to this point.

I started High School at John Paul College where I rowed in the summer and played football in the winter. I rowed for John Paul College for two seasons, before making the move to St Peters School, where I started to focus on rowing.

In my three seasons with St Peters school, I have achieved the following;

2019:

Selection into the men's u19 New Zealand Quad

Aon Maadi Cup (Nationals): Gold in u18 Single, Silver in u18 Double

North Island Secondary Schools: Gold in u18 Single, u18 Quad and Bronze in u18 Double

2018:

Club Nationals: Gold in the mens club Single

Aon Maadi Cup (Nationals): Gold in u17 Quad Silver in u18 Single

North Island Secondary Schools: Gold in u18 Double , Silver in u18 Single , u18 Quad

2017:

Aon Maadi Cup (Nationals): Gold in u16 Single

North Island Secondary Schools: Gold in u16 Single

This year, I want to explore where my rowing pathway can take me in life.

Jason Nel's involvement (page creator)

This year I have had the pleasure of coaching Jason. He is a dedicated and motivated young man and has worked hard to achieve what he has this season. This page has been set up to help Jason's family fund his campaign to the World Championships in Tokyo and realise his dream of wearing the Silver Fern. Any help in making this happen will be greatly appreciated.

- Megan Glenn, Head of Boy's Rowing, St Peter's School Cambridge.

(Jason wasn't able to use his bank account due to being under 18)

Use of funds

The money raised will be put towards the cost of the campaign and travel costs to Japan where I will represent New Zealand at the 2019 Junior World Championship Regatta.
