Help Jayden get brain surgery

  • Surgery - Done!!

      4 August 2024

Oops, I missed an important detail in the last update. Although it was initially indicated that surgery would be $60,000, when we received the formal quote it totalled $82,550 so it took us a little extra time to get there.

We drove to Auckland this week and Jayden had surgery on Wednesday. The surgeon told us there are some things that are unknown until they get in there but at every potential obstacle Jayden had great results. The gland was bulging from the outside and showing inflammation, once in there it was obvious where the tumour was as it was a different colour to the pituitary gland which made it easier to get all of it out. They burnt the area around it to kill any cells left behind. We have to wait for the follow up tests to be sure that he is “cured” but the surgeon said that the operation couldn’t have been more successful.

Jayden was moved out of HDU in under 24 hours and has bounced back remarkably well. He now has strict orders to walk twice a day, rest, not lift anything, and limit his fluid intake.

He said this morning that it feels incredible to walk around knowing this tumour is gone. Thank you to every person who contributed, we both feel so relieved and blessed to have had this opportunity for Jayden to be medication free and get back to being himself.

    Again, thank you so much.

      11 July 2024

    Hi Everyone

Since the page closed we have received a $16,000 donation from Jayden’s employer and a $40,000 donation from a close relative.

Jayden had another brain scan a few months ago, we had to fund this ourselves and discovered the tumour has shrunk by a few mm. He has been working hard to lose the weight he gained with the tumour and is 10kg lighter. He is still experiencing headaches, fatigue, irritability, issues with his eyes, and nausea from the medication but the surgeon feels Jayden is in an excellent position for surgery.

On Monday 29th July, a year after Jayden started medication, we start the journey to Auckland, we’ve had a family friend offer us free accomodation at their Airbnb which has been a big help. .

Jayden will have surgery on Weds 31st July and will have 4/5 nights in hospital.

We will send more updates during surgery week.

Thank you for helping us get there!

Thank you so much, we have been overwhelmed and humbled by your generosity! There were a lot of tears shed when the page went live. We really appreciate every donation, every page share and the fundraising ideas.

Jayden had nose surgery (thanks ACC) in mid November to correct an old rugby injury that had healed badly and basically closed off one nostril. He can noe breathe properly and it makes it easier for the tumour to be removed as the surgery is done via the nose (trans-nasal trans-sphenoidal).

We anticipate the surgery will happen this winter but once Jayden has had another scan we will know more and update again then.
