Help Jayden part ways with his tumour

Rolleston, Canterbury

Jayden found out this year that he has a 10mm tumour in his pituitary gland. This tumour is non cancerous but has stolen his energy and quality of life.

Jayden always wanted to be a young dad so that he could have the energy to play with our kids. Unfortunately he is now easily fatigued, suffers nausea and headaches, brain fog and constant exhaustion. All the energy he has go's to working full time to support our family.

The surgeon has confirmed he would operate on Jayden and there is a high likelihood the surgery will be successful in curing him and that he wouldn't require any further treatment.

This surgery is not publicly funded and we have found a private surgeon who is very experienced in the procedure, he has quoted us $60,000 for surgery and anything extra will go to travel to and from Auckland and accomodation for the two weeks we need to stay up there.

Surgery - Done!!   4 August 2024

Oops, I missed an important detail in the last update. Although it was initially indicated that surgery would be $60,000, when we received the formal quote it totalled $82,550 so it took us a little extra time to get there.

We drove to Auckland this week and Jayden had surgery on Wednesday. The surgeon told us there are some things that are unknown until they get in there but at every potential obstacle Jayden had great results. The gland was bulging from the outside and showing inflammation, once in there it was obvious where the tumour was as it was a different colour to the pituitary gland which made it easier to get all of it out. They burnt the area around it to kill any cells left behind. We have to wait for the follow up tests to be sure that he is “cured” but the surgeon said that the operation couldn’t have been more successful.

Jayden was moved out of HDU in under 24 hours and has bounced back remarkably well. He now has strict orders to walk twice a day, rest, not lift anything, and limit his fluid intake.

He said this morning that it feels incredible to walk around knowing this tumour is gone. Thank you to every person who contributed, we both feel so relieved and blessed to have had this opportunity for Jayden to be medication free and get back to being himself.

Again, thank you so much.
