Jeremy is a New Zealand Army Officer who has been in a tough fight with cancer and needs our help to continue seeing positive results.
Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui
Jeremy Smith is 39 years old and is a Husband, a Son, a Brother, a friend and an upstanding New Zealander.
Jeremy is currently serving in the NZ Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and has dedicated the past 21 years of his life in loyal service to New Zealand. This has seen him complete three operational deployments including Afghanistan, Egypt, and most recently South Sudan. Jeremy is one of the rare individuals within the New Zealand Army who leads not only through his rank, but more often through the genuine relationships he builds with those that work alongside him.
After Jeremy’s deployment to South Sudan, he was informed that he had been Stage 3 for most of the year and that it had progressed to his Lymphatic System. Since then he has had ongoing treatment which has included removing 96 lymph nodes, multiple neck surgeries, failed treatments, radiation therapy, immunotherapy and numerous other surgeries. Recently Jeremy travelled to Mexico to attend an experimental cancer treatment facility, in a last ditch effort to try and gain some reprieve from negative results.
While fortunately his most recent scan have shown some positive results, the above has cost in the realm of 6 figures.
Jeremy is not the type to ask for help, but would be the first to reach out and help others. He has had a positive impact on many people’s lives throughout the years and any support would go a long way on his road to recovery.
Estimated costs are:
* Travel (Palmerston North to Cancun) - $6k
* Treatment and Accommodation - $117k was the amount from the first trip
* Medications - $6-12K (depending on the revised treatment plan, post the next round of diagnostics).
* Misc (eg. International Health and Travel Insurance, and Mexico Visitor Tax) - $2k
If the goal is not met, I will still go, but the amount of treatment and medications purchased to return home with will be reduced accordingly.
Jeremy is a good friend and mentor to all of us who have put this page together.
Jeremy is currently seeing positive results from treatment overseas but this is costing hundreds of thousands and he needs our help to continue this treatment.
