Supporting Jessam and Claire to recover from cyclone Gabrielle
Gisborne
My brother, his partner Claire and her young daughter live in one of the regions worst hit by cyclone Gabrielle in NZ. We have had very little contact with them so far as Gisborne is still in a state of emergency but know that they were lucky to get out and have lost pretty much everything. My brother went back in chest deep water to save their dogs. Most other animals were lost. Most possessions gone / ruined. They do have insurance, but the excess alone for a natural disaster is $5k, and it won’t cover everything.
Their home is a rural property near Te Karaka on the river and they had spent countless hours lovingly turning the land into a sustainable lifestyle block, cultivating gardens and orchards, raising animals. They had just started renovating their kitchen.
I know they would not ask for this help, and I know so many need help right now, but I can’t imagine starting over from scratch, and nothing can replace the heart and soul they put into the place, destroyed in minutes. If you can help in any way these funds will go directly to them to help them rebuild their lives and ease the load a bit. Thank you xx
They are family, Jessam is my brother
All funds raised will go to them to help them with the cost of rebuilding their lives and the cost of living while they do so.
Thank you just doesn’t sum it up 23 February 2023
Dear friends, family and friends we have yet to meet,
Thank you so so much. We are so humbled by the generosity and love we have been shown. This will be a real game changer for us as we rebuild. I hope in the future we have the opportunity to reciprocate and pay forward the generosity that has been given to us. We are pretty overwhelmed by it and usually I’m not short of the right words but in this circumstance, I am right out of words. Thank you so much.
Much love,
Claire, jessam and Isabel xx
