Kia Ora Whanau,
Just giving a bit of an update with our mum!
So we are pleased to say, yes, she is finally home with dad!
She has enjoyed not listening to alarms, beeping noises etc like you would in a hospital ward.
Mum has been out of Rotorua Hospital since March.
She was transferred from Auckland Spinal Unit to Rotorua Hospital so she can be closer to home.
Every hospital is different in what resources they provide or lack of in this instance for mum with Rotorua.
Unfortunately the resources, facilities and patient care has been completely different for mum in Rotorua. Mainly for the fact is that there are very little resources and teams of people to help spinal injury patients.
However mum was adamant she wanted to be home and close to dad so she fought to have her come home.
Shes still paralysed from the waist down, however from the waist up - her back anyway. Has excruciating pain for mum.
She is having to go back into hospital every couple weeks as the pain killers they have been giving, have unfortunately not worked the way they should.
Mum is unable to have big doses of morphine as well, as its not good for her heart.
At the moment, she has been given a different set of pain killers which a higher dosage, that definately works when taken to the point, mum is sleeping within the hour of taking the pain relief.
Other then that, she has a wonderful carer who has been taking care of her whilst dad is at work between 8-4pm.
However in more recent news, my dad has just had a stroke, so he had a stint in hospital, and is now on light duties.
It hasnt been an easy road for our family, and with dad being the main bread winner, unfortunately hes had to cut back his hours to also slow down and look after himself as well.
Our family are very appreciative of the support and love this fundraiser has provided us.
We still have a bit of fight to go for our parents.
We would love still for this fundraiser to help provide a vehicle for my mum to be able to travel in. At the moment my mum is having to taxi everywhere.
The Ministry of Health are still assessing the application for funding, and there are still a couple grants we can apply for to help with a vehicle however this is no quick fix. Literally up to a year wait.
Unfortunately thats a bit too long for my mum not to be able to go outside etc or head to the shops.
The Van is in excess of $15,000. So we are hoping to have done some fundraising towards that with this fundraiser.
Other then that, mum is in good spirits. Being at home bed ridden or wheel chair bound is not an ideal life, and the stress of worrying about mum on dad and vice versa on mum is hard as it is.
But we are a fighting family and with prayers on our side, we will surely get through this!
We will give you an update soon, sorry its taken long!
Thanks again for all the love and support.
We appreciate everyone!
Jarnelle, Warena & Henare xo
