Please help and support this page by giving Julian and his family the strength to fight his leukemia and make it a successful recovery.
Auckland
On 10 February, our 16-year-old son Julien became unwell and was taken to A&E, where we were initially told it was a urinary infection and given antibiotics. When we returned to our doctor for further review, we received the devastating news that Julien had been diagnosed with leukaemia, a form of blood cancer. I broke down bursting into tears hugging my son.
He was urgently transferred to Starship Hospital, where he underwent scans, a bone biopsy, and had a central line placed so chemotherapy could begin immediately. The early weeks have been incredibly tough, with fevers, infections, weight loss, allergies to antibiotics, and the need for ongoing blood and platelet transfusions, as well as a feeding tube.
During this time, we made the difficult decision for one parent to step away from work to be by Julien’s side full-time and support him through treatment.
Despite everything, Julien continues to inspire us with his courage, humour, and strength. His spirit has brought our whānau together, giving us hope and determination to keep fighting this battle as a team.
He still has a long road ahead, including a possible transplant in the coming months, but we are staying positive, taking it one day at a time, and continuing to hold onto hope and prayers for his recovery.
Sadly Julien took his last breath and pasted away in the morning on the 30th June at 9:12am at Starship Hospital. The funds will now go towards supporting Julien family for there loss of there loving son❤️
I’m his uncle. After recently losing my mother, I wanted to honor her by setting up a Givealittle page to help support Julien. I wanted Julian to focus on his life and recovery without financial stress and to know he is not alone. We are all here for him
Your support will go towards daily living costs, reducing financial pressure on his whānau so they can be by his side during treatment. Funds will also help create a safe, suitable home for Julian to return to when he’s well.
LAST DAY LAY TO REST RIDE 7 July 2026
Meet at Mountfort Park, Weymouth between 8:30 8:50 and leaving mountford park at 9am We'll ride in together as one group.
At this stage, we'll be escorting Julien from his home in Weymouth to his service in Māngere at 11:00am. There may also be an escort after the service, but we're waiting on the family's decision and will update everyone as soon as we know.
Let's give Julien the send-off he deserves and make this a day his family will never forget. Ride safe, and see you all there. 🫡
Is anyone free on Thursday, 9 July?
We need as many bikes as possible to help give a young fella the send off he truly deserves.
Sadly, many of you will now know that Julien, our gentle giant, gained his wings on the 3rd of July after a courageous battle with cancer. He was only 17 years old far too young, with so much life still ahead of him.
If you're able to make it, please reach out to me. We will be escorting him from Manurewa to Māngere.
Let's come together as one riding community and give Julien the respectful farewell he deserves.
Ride in peace, Julien. Forever 17.
