Helping kaila raise money to attend the 2018 Aisan world volleyball champs in Thailand as member of the nz u17 team

Auckland

Kaila has been selected to play in the under 17 New Zealand Volleyball team where she will travel to Thailand in may this year to compete at the Asian Youth champs and the South East Asian champs

Kaila's Story

Over the last 10 months, I have been trialing, attending camp after camp in order to be considered for selection for the under 17 women’s New Zealand volleyball team. Last week the team list was sent out and my name was on the team list. I was officially named in the traveling under17 women's team to represent New Zealand.

I started playing volleyball when I was a Year 9 at Rutherford College. I decided to try out a new sport and all my friends wanted to play so we all signed up together. At that stage I had no idea I was about to fall in love with this sport. When I started playing, it was a lot of laughs and being a part of a school team was great fun but - me being me - I took it to the next level. I wanted to be the best.

Over the next year, my friends and I continued to play school volleyball, but I branched out and started to play in club, representative and social teams. If I could play, I would play. Volleyball became my everything.

I was asked early last year if I wanted to come along to a trial at Rangitoto College for a chance to attend a NZ development training. I thought “Why not? I'll give it ago. I was the only West Auckland girl to even attempt to trial for this so yes, of course I was nervous, but I gave it my all.

4 camps later, over 200 girls from all around NZ up for selection and here I am today. 1 of 12 girls named in the under 17 NZ volleyball team.

Thanks in advance for any donations made and all the on going support.
