Help 17-year-old New Plymouth Downhill MTB rider Kalani Henderson race his first UCI DH World Cup in South Korea.
New Plymouth, Taranaki
At just 17, New Plymouth downhill mountain biker Kalani Henderson has earned the opportunity to compete at his first UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in YongPyong, South Korea in May.
Kalani secured his place by finishing 2nd at Round 1 of the UCI Oceania Continental Series in January, earning a Golden Ticket entry to the World Cup.
Before heading to South Korea, he will race the Oceania series finale in Cairns, Australia. A strong result there could secure a Top 5 overall finish in the series (currently 3rd), which would be a major achievement and help open the door to competing in the full World Cup series in 2027.
For a young New Zealand rider, being able to attend a World Cup is a huge milestone and a chance to compete on the sport’s biggest international stage. After years of dedication, training, and racing, its an exciting step in Kalani's journey.
Travelling internationally to compete at this level comes with significant costs, and unfortunately there is no funding support from Cycling New Zealand for this event. Kalani has worked hard over the summer holidays and saved to fund much of the trip himself, but he is hoping to raise $5,000 to help cover the remaining travel and accommodation costs to make this opportunity possible.
Every contribution, big or small, is hugely appreciated. Thank you for helping make this opportunity possible for Kalani.
Please feel free to share this page to help spread the word.
As Kalani’s parents, we are proud of how his hard work is paying off and are helping him raise funds to get to his first UCI Downhill World Cup.
Funds raised will go directly towards international flights and travel costs, accommodation during the event, transport for bike and race equipment, and ground transport and race logistics
