Keith Hall is fighting incurable blood cancer. Please help him and his family as they face challenging times ahead.
Auckland
In late November, a dear friend of mine, Keith Hall, was hospitalised with heart palpitations, serious issues with his kidney function and a fractured vertebra.
After two weeks of numerous tests, he and his family were devastated to receive the news that all these issues were underlying symptoms of multiple myeloma, a rare form of incurable blood cancer.
Three days after this diagnosis, Keith began weekly chemotherapy to help reduce the spread and impact of the disease.
As Keith’s back heals and as his body adjusts to the chemotherapy treatment, he will not be able to work. This places significant financial stress on him and his family. Keith’s partner, Bex, is a teacher and in 2023, she will be starting a new role (with reduced hours) so that she may support their children with their education. Now, a huge part of next year (and beyond) will be supporting Keith during his treatment as well.
Keith and his beautiful family are hugely compassionate and are always the first to help others. They have touched the lives and hearts of so many. I’m setting up this page to help them during this stressful time in the hope relieving a bit of financial pressure so that they may concentrate on treatment and being together.
It is not in the family’s nature to ask for help, because they are always so focused on helping others. However, the significant reduction in their income is causing considerable concern. A koha of any amount would make a huge difference to this wonderful family.
I am friends with Rebecca and Keith. Rebecca has taught my children and I went to art school with Keith.
Funds raised will go toward health expenses and day-to-day expenses for the family. Any excess will be used to support Keith’s family and the children’s education in the future.
Thank you & Happy New Year! 6 January 2023
Happy New Year, everyone! It's been a few weeks since I set up this page, and I'm blown away by the generosity you have all extended to Keith, Bex and whanau. Thank you so much!

"Kia ora
Firstly, Thank you, thank you, thank you! We want to share our heartfelt thanks with each and every one of you. Since Keith's initial diagnosis, we feel like we have been in a whirlwind of emotions, decisions and medical treatment. It's only been after Christmas that we've been able to take a little break together as a family at my Mum's bach, to really stop, reconnect and let the reality settle. This experience has certainly given us a new appreciation for really being in the moment.
Keith has been going to weekly chemotherapy treatments. Initially, the treatment didn't affect him too much, but as we get into the rhythm of it and his body is adjusting, he's now experiencing more side effects for a few days, which is challenging.
Despite that, he is doing his best to stay in a positive frame of mind. And his ability to be in this positive place is amplified by the love and support we are getting from friends and whanau. It truly is a deeply humbling experience, and we can't express our thanks enough.
We still have a long road ahead and lots of financial decisions to make. We are so grateful for your generosity and the weight it is helping to relieve. Thank you.
We will update you again in the coming weeks as things progress. Until then, taku mihi aroha ki a koutou katoa.
